I'm thinking about getting a dremel type tool. Anyone got any recomendations on type. Cordless sounds good but but sure if too bulky or whether the cord isn't a problem. I have a pretty good cordless drill and angle grinder so I don't need power.

Also draper do a cheap copy pr is best to go with a dremel?

Cheers

Ed

I have a Dremel and a couple of the cheaper equivalents - the cheap ones are fine, but there is something about the dremel's "feel" of quality. All of mine are corded, and it's not usually a problem, BUT I will admit that there is the odd time where I curse the cable when it stops me easily getting the tool in at quite the right angle (oo-er missus....).

In the end, you pays yer money and takes yer choice. If you can afford a dremel, it'll give you years of excellent service - but on the other hand the cheap versions will probably do 99% of the jobs just as well.

I have a Woolworths special. I think they were £19,99 at the time, with loads of attachments and all in a metal case. Loads or work and its still going strong. Its corded.
OK, so woolies are not likely to have too many but they must be out there.

and this one, with 2 batteries, that appears to be the old nicad powered dremel now replaced by the 8200 lithium battery version.

My dremel is identical to this so it's either a cheaper copy or the old model now being knocked out at discount by dremel themselves.
I'd certainly recommend cordless as it's so easy out in the garden or if you need to do something on the car etc.

I replaced my old corded mini drill with a dremel cordless. it is obviously a quality tool, excellent out in the garden. I have no regrets in paying the extra

Was gonna get a corded one from Band Q for 40 quid but now looking at the cordless. Just the price is bit off putting, trying to see if much difference between the 8000 and the new 8200 other than 40 more pounds (but I think thats for accessories)!

I have a couple of Dremels and tools left over from cheapies. One thing to look out for is that the colletts from the cheapies will not fit the Dremels and Vicky verky of course.
My old Dremel has outlasted several cheapies

Being new at this I had no idea what a Dremel was but I was in B & Q when I came across the Dremal display stand. Yes must have one I said to myself!
Then looked at the price !!!! plus the add on?s. At this point I sort advise from another customer looking at the stand.
He just happened to work with similar kit in his day job all the time, he recommended Clark, the full kit was less than just the Dreal itself. and is is a good little box.
I have never looked back, & that was three years ago.

I use mine with a flexible shaft almost permanently attached with the drill hanging from a stand, this eliminates the bulk of the drill itself getting in the way of your work and makes the 'tool' end almost pencil like in use.

Dont forget to look in Wickes, Machine Mart and Srewfix as well as the other obvious ones. I usually go with "the best I can afford" reasoning if it's going to get a lot of use.

had 4 dremils, they burn out just as good as the cheapo ones..
