Although not G scale Dragon G Scale announces a forthcoming 7.1/4" Ride On range.

As a one time dabbler in 5" Ride on Railways I can confirm that it can be a very interesting Experience!

I wish Jeremy the best of luck with his venture.

7 1/4 too big for me been looking for something cheep in 5" as all the lines round here are either 5" or 3.5" or dual, 7 1/4 bit rare locally.

But good luck.

Keep hoping Maxitrax will have something 2nd hand

If this loco costs £1800 I wonder how come Roundhouse G scale locos cost £900.:frowning:

Are you commenting that the Roundhouse seems expensive? Athough the 7.25 loco is somewhat larger, it's just a steel box on wheels with an electric motor and batteries. There's rather more fiddly precision engineering in a Roundhouse live steam loco, it needs to withstand steam pressure for one thing. Such engineering has a cost.

Never judge the cost of a Model loco in relation to its size NTNP etc post above is perfectly correct, you must consider the work and intiracy involved in the model another example is BEMO H0e Metal locos such as the 2-10-2T, A tiny little loco fits in the palm of a hand but several Hundred pounds, Bemo also produced a Saxon Meyer in H0e which was almost the same price as the LGB model in G scale!!

H0e by the way is 3.5mm/Ft running on 9mm gauge track

Another rule of thumb:
The smaller it gets, the more it costs!

Precision is required as things get smaller.. Steel box, car battery, converted Lucas dynamo, bike chain, big cogs..
A little unfair, but you get the idea??

Why , then , did my Landrover Discovery cost twice as much as a half the size Golf ?

Rules , rules , rules . We're damned if we don't follow them , even if they are made up .

At £900 I think 'Mobi' is comparing the Dragon loco it to a Roundhouse 'Criccieth Castle' which is an electric loco - not live steam.

Having said that, I still think (when you compare the specifications) the 'Dragon' loco at £1800 and the 'Roundhose' one at £900 are probably somewhere near equally good value for money.

image.jpeg I know it's been a while since the last post.
I design and build these locomotives for Jeremy, and there is a second loco that hasn't been put on the website yet, a 2hp bogie loco based on an Alco S-4
