I know we throw the bank of six DIP switches for motors and pickup to go DCC..
Do I (should I) alter any of the four DIP switches on a Mallet LGB sound board as well?

I think I did spot someone suggesting this, but am unable to find it. - Even using Google.

Full setup:
LGB L21852 Mallet
eMotion XL
55026 cable
8413501 digital pulse smoke generator
The LGB sound board in the loco is a 22852 v1.0

Should I have any control of sounds via DCC. - I do not appear to have.

Switch one of the bank of four is on for analogue and off for digital.

Take a look at page 9 of this link.

Apart from the pulsed smoke unit, this setup is exactly the same as the one I did about a year ago, Phil - it's probably my thread about that which you're remembering. As far as I can recall, you do NOT need to adjust the four DIP switches on the sound board.... I can't quite remember what they do, but I think it's in the instruction manual for the loco somewhere.

I also think the sound board works only on serial commands, not parallel - so if you're using either an MTS handset or a Navigator, you need to configure it for serial commands when running that particular loco; it still works the same with all the usual function buttons, but you'll just notice a few seconds delay when you trigger the higher-numbered sound functions.

Jon.

Thanks Neil and Jon.. I will try switch 1 for digital control of sounds.
EDIT
Tried it, and only get whistle with F1 key.. Others do not control sounds..
Tried CV49 = 1 (and also 9) - Which I believe should set things for serial and parallel.
NOTE: I do not have a Massoth central station, so it could be a 'feature' of the Digitrax I am using.
END EDIT

As an aside:
The Massoth manuals for the these units do not make it particularly clear about the pulse generator settings on the XL..
As I read the XL manual;
CV 119 should set which key switches A6 on/off.
CV 120 should then have a value between 1 - 15 (16 in some literature!) for pulse width.
However, my settings are CV 119 = 0 and CV120 = 7.
This seems to work, and key 7 turns the smoke-unit off/on.
From the linked literature above, it looks like I will switch coal shovelling as well.
Thanks again,
PhilP
