Does anybody know a supplier who can provide, off the shelf so to speak, decals that represent the gauges, dials and instruments one might find in the cabs of both steam and diesel locos in around 16 mm/1:19 scale ? They could be self adhesive, water slide or dry print.

I have checked trough my usual suspects - IP/Dickie's, Endon Valley, Fox, Custom decals and Blackhams but cannot find anything listed. Stan's a bit far away :). I have thought of contacting Roundhouse to see if they would be able to sell me some of the type they use on their diesel range's control panels. But that would still leave the steam stuff unaccounted for.

Your suggestions please for actual representations or fudges you have used (I've looked down the model car supplier route too for something adaptable). Perhaps there is a gaping hole in the market looking to be filled by some enterprising deal specialist ? Max

Thank you Tim. Just what I was looking for and more. Order has been placed and site bookmarked for future use. Is this what used to be at the core of the Locolines product range ? Max

Max, if you message me with some artwork or photos with details of the sizes you require I'll gladly run you a sheet off on self adhesive vinyl.

Many thanks for the offer Mike but I have already placed an order with Rail-Road models and I have no actual art work handy. The idea of copying images from the web, much as I did to create a scale representation of the GWR fruit bowls fabric on canvass ink jet printer material did occur to me. Or some 1:43 items I have left over from my 1:32 slot car business re-scaled and repeated the same way. I bought some diesel & steam gauges and instruments sheets as well as some Festiniog logos.

It must be the old Locolines range as when I clicked on the Homepage it came up as already bookmarked as...........Locolines. Now renamed in my listings for Retailers/Makers/Parts etc'. Max

GWR fruit bowl pattern - from this picture, suitably cropped

To final near A4 size step and repeat printed on canvass ink jet material -

It's not perfect but it will do as a 1:19 representation. I'm feeling pretty pleased with myself on that one

I still have my late father-in-law's (and his father's too) driver training books and manuals for both GE & LNER steam locos and the replacement diesels. I will look them out - there are bound to be some backhead photos I can scan for potential use if anyone needs them. Both if them worked steam on the Norwich to London line, but Percy (the older) retired before steam was withdrawn. Father-in-law Maurice did several turns on Britannia and Oliver Cromwell in the sixties. Later on 31s, 37s, 47s, before moving to electrics when the overhead was finally installed to Liverpool Street. He ended his career on 08s - shunting stuff around Norwich Thorpe and Crown Point due to being downgraded with heart problems.

Found grandfather-in-law's 1908 copy of Hodgson & Williams' 'Locomotive Management'. A selection of cab layout pictures and diagrams found within, but the quality of the photos leaves a lot to be desired (sample below). Will have a go at putting them through one of they 'picture improver' thingummies to see if any better. More books and manuals to locate so we ain't done yet.
