As I have been thinking about power/control options for some time and ( as you do ) surfing evil-Bay I tripped over this ;

http://www.ebay.de/itm/Massoth-Dima...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649

First, is this a viable kit for a total "Digital No Nothing" to start from? Second, given most components are more than a year old, does it represent value for money?

As I run mainly LGB locos, I have looked at the LGB MTS system which looks to be half the price but, as I understand, from a number of threads on here, offers only limited functionality.

Any response/input would be much appreciated.

Alex

That is one heck of a system for 999 euro.
It will do the job admirably.

Yes, I'd agree completely with Alan - looks like a good deal to me! If I didn't already have all the Massoth gear that I need, I'd be tempted myself....
Of course, it's an auction sale and not a "Buy it Now", so it might end up costing more depending on whether anyone else wants it badly enough. If you were lucky enough to be the only bidder, then it would be very good value at that price.
The LGB MTS system, while still fine for people who already have them, is not something I'd suggest buying now if you're starting from scratch unless your budget is tight - and even then, I'd seriously look at the Piko system (which is also largely Massoth-designed) as a budget alternative.

Good luck if you decide to bid on the Massoth package!

I heartily concur with all that has been said about Massoth DCC kit having been using it since I moved over from LGB Kit some 5 years ago.

Just FYI Alex the seller only seems to be willing to ship to Germany or Austria?

Possibly thinks an 'international' bidder would not be willing to stump-up for the carriage costs? - It will be quite a bulker and heavy package..

I had not looked in detail at the shipping cost. Just noted for me, 8,60 euro. As a Scot, I would have prefered " Kostenloser Versand " ;)

Living in France and working in Germany has it's advantages. I buy over evilbay. de. and use my work address. 24 hr 7 days a week reception all year round. Never had a delivery issue.

A very nervous 5 mins, checking SWMBO was not about but 1211 euro later its mine

All I need to do now is find out what all the bits do and how to make it all work.

I forsee any number of Idiot questions being written here :worried:

Congrats on the evilBay win, I think it's still a good deal at the price you paid...... it'll take a while to learn all the things it can do, but the basics are pretty straightforward - I'd just hitch it up to some track and get a loco running, and feel your way from there.

If you dont get all the instruction paperwork, they are downloadable from the Massoth website.
