Hi all
Looking at getting a Darj as my next project and giving it the works, details, repaint and weathering. Anybody got any nice shots of one on your line? There was a thread on page 40 of this Steam section but none of the pictures are there now. Think there was one showing a loco in orange??
Not sure which way to go with it yet, blue is nice but then so is the green with original lower coal bunker and old style lamps. I see Matt Acton has just painted one in photographic grey too, no pics of it assembled yet though!

Also if anyone has one they might like to sell then get in touch! :-)

Cheers

Can´t get enough of these films ... :P

I looked at them yesterday (and forgot to post my thoughts). Great engineering. My heart was in my mouth as I looked on at the trailer loading and unloading - I wouldn't want that to drop off the temporary connecting tracks and on to my toes! ;D

Hmmmmm yes..... I think a full sized version that resided in a shed somewhere would probably be safer.....

A friend has a Roundhouse version. The only photo I can find of it is this one, if it helps at all.

Thanks for the replies. Nice shot Philip, they look so good from all angles, just an interesting prototype. I find many 16mm loco's can be quite toy like, but the Darj hardly needs anything to make it into a nice model. I think with a rework and some extra parts, a good paint job and some weathering it could be very convincing.

The large Live steamers are wonderful, hard to move and store though, not to mention paying for them! :-)

Any more Darj pics out there to share folks????

Once you get to 7 1/4" gauge and large prototypes, it's better if you have a railway where it can 'live'. Transporting them is fine, but it does become a drag if it has to be frequently. It's really nice if you just fancy a steam up, and all you need to do is shove it out of the shed and light up.

Yeah I have seen those, seen vol 2 up for sale at £160!!! Thing is I'm not after loads of info about the line and all the stock, just a bit of general info on the loco's, how they were earlier in their lives, liveries and the basic changes to body and details. shots of them before the coal bunker extension seem hard to find, most stuff is from the blue era!

An official works photo or two would be great!

I'm still looking around for a second hand one if anyone knows of one about? Colour and condition isn't important!

Cheers

Railworld, Peterboro were looking for offers on a Baldwin, which had something to do with the DHR?? - If I remember correctly??

Might be a bit over-gauge though?? :o ::) ;) :D ;D ;D

I have a Roundhouse B class and one of my pet hates with Roundhouse loco`s generally is the use of cheese head screws around the motion. Here I`ve replaced the ones at the top of the combination lever with 6BA with one size smaller (7BA) heads. BA screws with one size smaller heads re available from several model engineering suppliers. I`ve also turned twenty thou` off the heads to make then thinner and then rounded the corners. The two cheese heads at the top and bottom of the lifting link are M2, (RH use a mixture of BA and metric threads). I`ve replaced these with M2 stainless steel hex heads that already have nice thin heads.

I`m now in the process of applying these mods to the rest of the RH loco`s in our local group,(Mersey and West Lancs) at their owners` request.

Definitely improves the look Bob. In the end of the day these folks have to produce an acceptable product down to a price, so shortcuts such as those will occur from expediency rather than ignorance of the correct look.

Yeah changing the cheeseheads really make such a difference to the model. It would be good to change the slot headed countersunks in the axle ends too with allen heads. Also want to add some cast leaf springs.
Interesting how they mix metric and imperial too. I have used the "size smaller" head bolts for years on most of the stuff I build and it has a good effect, well worth the effort!

Just posted a picture in the gallery of my Darj visiting the Blackbrook Railway in St Helens.and pulling borrowed stock as my own line is 45mm. Also here's a link to a Youtube video at Hope Mountain Railway near Wrexham My Darj appears at about 1:40, but it's worth watching the whole video because there's another blue Darj but mainly because it's such an amazing line.

I have never ever understood why they use cheeseheaded screws on models the price they charge.........must have bought a hell of a job lot from someone!! ;D

I seem to remember them saying something to the effect that it makes production easier, although I can't see that it would make much difference.

The first Darj could do with a bit of PPS Slow mo, but the later one was better controlled. Why do 16mm Steamers appear to think that they need to go at break Neck Speed though? But I have to say that some of my vids of my Puffers are Faster than I would Like! Slow mo will be got for my Roundhouse Locs soon!

That Blackbrook line with the Quarry and Mountain Stonework built into the Conifers is an absolute revaluation. Totally Superb.

Oops it appears that for some reason my words are shown not mine in the above post. Not sure how this occurred sorry. From the withering about Speed is me.

Well I have managed to get a nice second hand Darj, so I will be reworking it over the next three weeks into something a bit more detailed and weathered, there will be a pic or two of the finished loco.
Thanks for the replies so far, that Railway in St Helen's looks really good by the way.
Any more pics or vids out there would be nice to see.
Cheers
