Anything to do with railways especially narrow gau
Country flag
I have not posted on the forum for a while and thought I would give an update on my railway. I started to rebuild parts of it last year but the work came to an abrupt halt due to family illnesses. However this year the work has recommenced and I am pleased with the progress so far.
Firstly for new members here is a recap on the design of my railway. It consists of two independent lines - a ground level line which is analogue. I run mainly US standard gauge on this plus my analogue LGB OBB diesel. - and a higher level line which is mainly on a wall. This is digital (MTS) and is narrow gauge running LGB and also live steam and battery powered loco. Both lines have branches into a purpose built shed. The latter line is the one that I have been working on this year. Before this year it consisted of a single line with return loop at each end and also a return loop in the shed. Here are a couple of pics.

I decided to remove the two outside return loops and change the design to a dogbone. I hoped that this would lead to smoother running as some wagons and coaches frequently de-railed on the points (especially Accucraft ones). I have removed and replanted several conifers and plants and also relocated a lot of earth!.

Looks very nice Paul. The Regner loco looks very much at home

One of the former return loops (seen on the right in the last pic) has been turned into a simple tramway. This is independent circle of track and is analogue. I am keeping an eye open for a yellow LGB tram and trailer to operate on this. I managed to purchase some LGB masts but still need to find the catenary wire to go with them.

Hi Mel, Yes I think they are GRS kits but I bought them already constructed at an auction.

Thought so Paul. I ordered their modified W&L brake van, but they've stopped doing the whole range since Accucraft made their rtr wagons, even though some of the GRS kits aren't modelled by Accucraft.

Thanks Andy. My tastes are very diverse so I wanted a layout that would let me run every kind of G scale. After several revisons I am happy with the layout now and do not plan any major changes in the future. I will now concentrate on adding buildings etc and of course regular maintenance.

That looks like a great layout, Do you have a trackplan?

Great pic's lovely landscaping

Thanks Richie. I do enjoy the challange of fitting the railway into the landscape

Hi Phil, at the moment I do not have one. I have tried drawing one both on the computer and by hand but this turned out to be a disaster! If anyone knows a simple way of drawing a legible one please let me know.

Doesn't someone else do the later version of the W&L guardsvan, in wood? It wouldn't be difficult to make your own one from scratch though. I think i've got alot of their W&L kits. Will post pics if you like Mel.

Try using OO gauge track for your overhead catenary wire - Strip the track out from the sleepers and solder lengths of track together at the fishplate - Its an ideal alternative :)

Hi Ian, Thanks for the tip. I will dig out some old Peco track and try it.

Hi Paul.
I am pleased to see the good progress you have eventually been able to make. Keep going! ;) It looks very good from here.

Thanks Alan, I am pleased with the final design of the layout. I have tried to combine operational interest with easy maintenance. Rgds, Paul
