Hi All,

Back from hols and had a quick play this PM. I decided it was time to see what my newly battery converted Alco could haul! I haven't counted but it must be c.120 axles and no slipping.

1st you see three of my small locos, which could just about keep the train moving, but slipped a lot to get it going.

Then the LGB shows it's stuff with a couple of maximum power pull aways.. if your interested the gubbins is shown below.

V good haulin' power those Alcos.
Hows the Rio Grande one, Ian?

That's just splendid Ian.
What batteries are you using in Mr Alco (volts/ amps)?

Impressive! I must get my eyes tested (again) - I thought that you'd got some sticks of dynamite taped together in your pic!

Mike - The black Alco is really a shelf queen, I am not going to mess with it so when the tracks are clean she'll get a run (no that often....)

Peter- it's two 4500mah sub c tamyia style racing packs wired in series.

Stainzmeister- yes she is a fair bit heavier than standard- I used a spare metal weight as my heat sink plus the batteries. However these locos are pretty heavy anyway as the fuel tank is solid lead and they are just big- I would be pretty sure that a standard loco would do this performance or close to it.

dynamite- I think they are made to look like that as they are for racing really!

Is a 30 wagon train prototypical for an Alco ?
It's certainly looks right.....
I don't know is the honest answer! I suspect it would have another running back to back on such a train.

I can only find footage of them hauling lengthy tourist trains in the post mining era, and then normally with two or three on the front.

The length was determined by taking all my freight cars off the shelf- I don't really think about prototypes I was just playing- it doesn't look right really as the train occupies my main straight!

Cheers, Ian

Nice one Ian  Do like your weathering on your freight cars

Nice one Ian. I have settled on the same batteries, get better performance than from other sources. I take it that the remote is one of Cliffs`s. what sort of running time do you get from the Alco?

Nice..
I get the 'dynamite' - gives it more Ooomph!
So, I presume the 'harmonica' at the other end is part of the sound system?:rolf::rolf::rolf:

Yes it's a cliff barker 2.8a. I ran it with 10 wagons recently from 9.00am until 2.00pm. at 2pm it was lapping ten seconds slower so decided to stop....
