CLIMAXS' AT DUNN'S MILL

8) Today, the Wellington Garden Railway Group held their usual Christmas meet at Loco, in Otaki. A couple of us brought Climax locos to run/pose on the extensive layout.

We'll start with my Ellis & Burnand No. 1203 at the log dump at Dunn's Mill.

Second train of the day to service the siding, was Phil Smith's newly acquired Climax that has been converted to dual running on battery/track power.

Later, the two trains parked up in the storage sidings at Dunn's Mill, while the crews 'partook of tea'.... well, pizza, actually.

All in all, a good day had by all. JR will no doubt be posting more general shots of the day's events ;)

You really just, cannot beat a double Climax.............. :o

Nice vid

:) There are 4 real Climax locomotives here in NZ in various states of survival. 552 is a rusty hulk, stored in a shed at the Tokomaru Steam Museum. 1203, previously restored and running, is now laid up for boiler repairs/replacement, at Shantytown. 1317 has been cosmetically restored at a museum in Te Awamutu, and not far away, at Pukemiro, 1650 is an active work in progress. There are also Heisler locomotives here as well.

nice tweety birds in the video too

are the latest versions of this loco good ones?
I would love one, but I see to recall either tracking issues, or drive train issues or other issues

if I hear good things I may well buy one right away
thoughts and comments?
thanks

I have an unused one of the new variety available Steve.

It was packed in a box that says that it has DCC and sound on board ....but it doesn't (this was apparently commonly done by Bachmann when they tested the locos. if a Soundtraxx DCC/sound board didn't work, they just took out the board but left the loco in the original box!).

I was going to dress it up and do things to it but it is a project that I will never get around to so she will not be added to my fleet of geared locos.

As to any problems. The new variety has improved uprated bogies, a different way of powering the 'motion' movement that does not include using both bogies like the older model, and also extensive upgrading of the wiring and connections in the bunker. There are screw connections for DCC or battery and sound as well as a 'plug and play' socket for a board like a QSI etc.

I have two of the older variety and two of the newer ones and, although I like my old jobbies, the new ones are much improved and seem to be trouble free........

If you would like some more info please pm me. The shipping cost might be the deal killer to USA though!

thanks so very much
I appreciate the info
so to summarize-they run well and are trouble free?
