Pick up container traffic. Class 216 does the honours.

Good review from Dave , better to see the Hapac Lloyd containers weathered and in use, no bridges or catenary at the CFR?

Due to substantial damage our catenary on the main line was removed last month.

The clearence is now better.

We have retained the catenary for the rack line.
The problem with the mainline catenary was that it was just to fragile. The plastic LGB used becomes brittle after prolonged exposure to the weather. We were replacing posts on a weekly basis. We should have gone for aluminium posts from the start, but they were so expensive that it would have cost thousands to install over the entire railway.

YIKES !
About how long was the cat poles in use outside till they started to become brittle ?
This news is really bad for the meager money the DR has for maintaince .
Could diesel motive power be in the DR future , or even worse , the use of trucks and busses .

The posts lasted an average of five years. Initially we were able to glue them back together, the repaired joint being stronger than the rest of the post. But they would then break at another point. A couple of posts had four individual repairs.
