Can I use LGB 51950 signal for switch(point) indicator

Hi, new to forum posting but have lurked for a while. I tried to use a 51950 two light signal to indicate when the point switches. I thought if I ran a jumper (orange/white wire) from the switch motor (LGB 12010) to the signal motor (LGB 51590) it would activate when the switch motor activated. I get power for the signal from the track. The power is from Massoth central station and power supply and Massoth 4 channel switch decoder. When I activate the switch motor the signal motor also activates but the light does not change. It stays green. I used a magnet to check if the signal light would change and if I move the magnet close to the base of the signal the light does change to red. I thought maybe the reed switch was bad so I changed it and tried again. The switch and signal motors are activating but the light doesn't change. I tried disconnecting the jumper from the switch motor and moving the signal motor by hand (signal only has track power with this test) and it still does not change. So what am I doing wrong? Or am I missing something completely. Is the signal light faulty? Any help would be appreciated! thanks!

So I assume you are using the same channel for your point motor to activate the signal?

You should hear the motor in the signal clunk at the same time as your point motor.

You have proved the mechanism works with the magnet test, so I suspect either the motor in the signal base is misaligned or you haven't enough of a pulse of energy to operate both motors.

Check that the signal motor is aligned by removing the top and checking the position of the toothed rack.

You can reposition the rack to make your signal work. You should also see your motor flip 180 deg if you operate the point s with your navigator....

Did you attach the magnetic sender to the signal drive? This is from page 5 of the instructions:
- LGB 51950: Press the mast onto the socket. Press the magnetic sender onto the drive pin,
otherwise there is no change of light (Fig. 2).

Well don't I feel foolish. I had to go digging through the parts box but I found the sender. It's been a while since I used the signal and I had completely forgot about the sender. ( I probably have the manual somewhere but I'll look for that later...) Just gave it a go and it it works great!
Thank you so much for the responses!!

Do not beat yourself up too much, we all miss something in that great big red box.
