Gotta start somewhere - the buffer stop this end is where the Misty Mountain Railroad (Dudley's) will plug in.....

That has gotta be the shortest short line ever!

The link is laid - shame I didn't have the wits to spray it first, but might well save a bit of £ in the future !

Try spraying it now. When I laid and ballasted my track I could not stand the 'new' look so I bought a load of railmatch track dirt paint spray and gave the whole lot a blow over, rails, sleepers and ballast. Rather than giving a boring uniform colour the paint takes differently on the various surfaces and looked pretty good to me.

You may want to have a go on a small bit and see what you think.

Patience is a virtue!!"!!
in a very short time it will have weathered naturally to a pleasing dark brownish colour
I painted some of mine when I started, but I do prefer the natural look
Cosmetically the only problem rail I have is the LGB nickel? plated batch I got cheap at clearance
WHEN I get round to it, I will dremel the plating off the rail top, ( essentially using mask for the dust, which I dont normally bother with, cant remember what, but there something bad about nickel)
As I only run Battery locos, scratching is no problem!
Love your ballasting, what size / grade is it?
I know all about rule 8, but oversize ballast tends to spoil the effect for me

Hi Don and Phil

Phil I use your method for the BPMRA O scale layout (hidden in the shed in the photo) and used to use it for OO. Yes I agree, it works well, but I like to spray (no cat comments thanks  ) and - added to the cost of weatherproof PVA - it will cost a bit.

Which brings me to the ballast Don. I searched for quite a while, during which time I bought some ballast that I'll use elsewhere as scenic bits, and settled upon this which is 3mm Dorest Pea Gravel. I bought it from Blue Sea Aquatics at Watton not far away ( and where I used to live when I worked at the radar staion that used to be there). I think it's is available elsewhere. Blue Sea's number is 01953 883239 - nice young lady, who will smile when you tell her what it's for !!

Here's the URL :

And a pikkie this morning now that the PVA mix has dried (to a concrete-hard consistency :) )

Brillant travail et joliment prévues

Re:Broome Lake Short Line Embryo

Gradually going round the bend.......

....Dudley's very good at sawing

The water butt's going to a new home, and the railway will shoot across underneath at right angles, more or less where the butt is.....
