British Rail Diesel Build

Hi Everyone

Was wondering if anyone could help me please. I would like a Class 25 or 33 built. This is something that is beyond my skill level and struggle to have time to keep up with track maintenance, let alone start a scratch build. I would like the engine to be in BR blue, weathered, complete with DCC and sound, but the main aim is for it to handle my layout. My garden is on a steep slope so will need two good motors. The other problem I have, was we had to use R1s on the inner loop which was not ideal but paths, walls etc forced me down this road. The outer loop is all R3 but would like the engine to be able to cope with both. So the question is has anyone built one ? Or would anyone be interested in building one for me. Understand this will be expensive but as its one of the engines I grew up watching with my dad at Tonbridge yard, it would mean a lot to have a unit for my layout.

As I grew up I also had a great interest in the APT so was wondering about someone converting the LGB ICE train into an APT

I look forwards to your thoughts and help

Many thanks

Is that the one that was built from Playmobil blocks and lots of plasticard? I seem to have vague memories of something like that probably back in the G Scale Mad days?

Yes it is. I just wish some of those people would show their wonderful creations on here again!

The LGB V51/52 goes round R1s just fine so this could make a good basis for your Class 25

Thank you for your replies, I am going to contact the gentleman at RJmodels and see if he would be interested in building me one. If you have any more ideas who could build this please let me know as would mean at lot to be able to run with my dad who is in bad health as it was dad who got me my 1st LGB starter set some 30 years ago. If you know of any items that would be able to run on my layout and are of British type please let me know. Thanks adam

A good starting point, if you are prepared to run steam prototype, is to take a good look at the Bachmann 'Thomas' range. Just take the faces off the Troublesome trucks etc etc. There are conversion kits available to 'de Thomas the Thomas range'. Seen some loverly Stiring Singles on these pages. Can't really offer much advice on diesel era, other than the Class 66 and generic continental type container flats.

Two things to remember in G scale are, 1, it ain't cheap, and 2, it usually isn't available.

Then G1, and British outline, is more expensive, and more rare again!

Thank you all for the ideas, I like the idea of using a LGB V51/52 or a Piko Taurus as the base. I am going to see if a friends company could make a mould to scale if I can find the plans for the full size engine. If not for part of my job we use a laser scanner to map builds and make 3D images so we can video map them. So guess if I can find a loco some where I could try this may be a bit extreme but at least if I have a mould others could use it.

Step 1 find plans Any ideas ? If that comes up a blank any ideas where there is a Class 25 or 33 that I can get to scan?

Cheers
Adam

Scan a model and upscale it ?

Great idea Mike I did not think of that, I will be of to KGR on Friday now to purchase one to scan. While I am there might get some extra track and points as home alone so going to build wye so I can turn my locos around.
