This railway came about because I thought the previous layout was getting more of a chore to maintain being on ground level and to big,and was getting less and less used (Getting up and down doe.s not get any easier as you get older, I have since found out climbing up and down concrete mountain's is not much better) so I raised the railway up some 1 metre high The layout size is 4metres long and between 2.5 to 4 metre's wide so very small by G scale standards. Even so the railway still consumed some 250 celcon block's 38 bag's of sand 8 bag's of ballast 5 bag's of cement 80 foot of 4x2 timber 26 2.5 metre lengths of decking god know's how many nail's and screw's, one roll of roof felt 5 litre's of white masony paint and 2.5 litre's of black masony paint. The layout was going to be based in Germany, how ever after getting a load of caternary from the USA thought's turned to something along Swiss line's so this is a mix of the two. There are 2 main circuit's one of them is laid to radius 3 and 2 shuttle line's this will be changed to 3 shuttle line's in the near future The railway is named after my wife Brenda as a lot of the input idea's etc were thought of by her The project has took some 10 month's to get to the stage you see know We had our first open day with the layout last Sunday 25th May and the layout was still being finished as the first of the gests turned up it was that close to the wire to get it all finished There were not to many problem,s Gizzliz sorted out the dodgy electric's on the shuttle's. I want to look into making the bridge swing up and down instead of lifting up and out this might make thing's a bit easier for people to see the layout from the inside instead of just from the outside hope you enjoy will post some more picture's tomorrow if you want

Just thought of some more bit's the building in photo 7 started out as a children's doll's house it was cut in half' the cut part's were added to either side of the main building and put up in half relive on to the mountain side, the castle church and cable car building as well as the 7 tunnel mouth's are made from plywood and coved in waterproof tile adhesive the shed building's and the backscene are cement board something the builder's use in shower's The point's used in the station's on the shuttle and the point's used on the other shuttle by the mill and at the other end where the storage tank is, are all non working the turnout's had been used so many time's before they were getting well past there sell by date(LGB track might be elephant prof and all that but it is not MOLE prof) so the plastic frog was removed and either a piece of straight rail or a radius one curved rail was used to give's a cointinous run of metal rail so there is no stalling over dead part's, as this is a shuttle and the train's do not use the other track's I found you get more reliable running, the other track's are there just to try and give a bit of atmosphere to the scene There was a lot of bad comment's about the LGB E10 loco but I have found this to be a very good loco for the price having two motor's a very good paint finish ok the door's do not open the pantagraph's are none working but for the price £275 00 a very good purchase

Excellent photos of a very interesting and well-thought out layout which looks great. Thanks, too, for all tjhe background information. The idea of cutting the dolls' house in two to get a low relief building twice as wide is ingenious.

Like the station names ;)

Lot of work went on to get that done in 10 months considering the civil engineering to start it off!

Would be interesting to see an overall view if that's possible?

Great pics, Chris, and having been at the open day last Sunday I can attest to the fact that it looks just as nice in reality! :)

Jon.

That looks great , hard to believe it only took 10 months to build :)

Very nicely done.[e]339[/e]
