BoBo chassis or motor blocks...?

A long shot I reckon, but just wondering if anyone here has something suitable for a scratchbuild I have planned?
I'm looking for a pair of motor bogies from a BoBo loco (electric or diesel), ideally LGB but would consider Piko or one of the US makes, or indeed a complete chassis from a similar loco. Exact dimensions are unimportant, because it's going to be a freelance semi-scale project. I would like them to have bogie-mount couplers (LGB loop type) if possible, similar to the blocks from a 2095, 2091 or V51/52. Modern 4-wire units would be nice, but I'll consider anything including old clamshell blocks as long as they are mechanically and electrically sound and they run. They do NOT need wizzy cranks or anything like that, and the style of sideframes is unimportant.
I'm happy to pay a reasonable price for these, I'm not looking for giveaways - I'd just rather not have to buy and mutilate a good complete loco (though I would of course consider one with a tatty or broken bodyshell that I could strip for the parts I need).

LGB sell a set of motor bogie block for the US F7 diesel for upgrading the unpowered B unit which may suit you and they also sell bogie upgrades for the LCE train.
 
Jon i have various pairs of blocks saved for future projects Aristo, LGB etc i wasnt looking to sell them but if it helps you out as i wont need them straight away i have far to much other stuff im doing..pop over and take a look....will allways concider a deal on something

Jon, try a Bachmann GE 45 tonner, most dealers want to get rid of them, as they are too big, nothing wrong with the loco/power bogies at all. I have used the power blocks on many conversions; I would say for £60-£80 you could have a new, but shelf stored loco, ready for your next project. p.s. be cheeky ask Bachmann in Leicestershire. (thats what they knocked them out to the trade a few years ago). Alyn :onphone:
 
Thanks Alyn, I had one of those myself for ages, never ran it, sold it on a couple of years back!
I have a couple of offers of LGB blocks, following them up tonight, so fingers crossed..... ;)

Further to earlier posts, I'm still looking for (ideally) a pair of LGB motor blocks.... a couple I was offered didn't pan out, so if anyone else has anything suitable I'm still in the market for some! Ideally just bare LGB motor blocks with (preferably) plain disc wheels, I now have some V51 bogie frames on order to mount them in.

Jon can you check if Tony has a spare drive axle for a USAT block please....
 
Right, after considerable rummaging around online I've sourced a couple of the brand-new LCE extra power units at below list price, so it looks like that's the way I'll be going for this particular loco project - at least this way I'll have new factory-fresh units with a warranty, and with the right wheels, so won't have to worry about swapping wheels or about the provenance of second-hand units where one might be more worn and/or run at a different speed to the other!

I'm always on the lookout for similar power units for other projects, though, so anyone who's got anything suitable to sell please let me know. :bigsmile:

Probably when I've got past the planning stage and into the actual build, James - I don't like to talk about future stuff and then not have it work out..... probably a hold-over from running my business, when you don't let on to your plans until you are 100% sure they are going to work AND that you can hit the deadline, otherwise you just end up with an egg-on-face situation.

As the late great Douglas Adams said: "I love the sound that deadlines make as they rush past you..." ;)

Giz, if it is the gear shaft (that the axle passes through) that has cracked, a common problem, people have been very successful with using wire and super glue bound around the shaft a few times as a repair.
I may have a brand new one spare as I have quite a few USAT locos and have the spare axles for the eventuality of a quick swap being needed.

Shaft is fine, but the Nylon toothed gear is worn....
