I'm not sure: I went on it in the mid-80's; I seem to recall it was a Coney-Island style wooden affair (or perhaps Coney Island was a Blackpool-type affair?). My favourite stretch of line is up towards Fleetwood, and then the balloon loop through the town; if I'm feeling flush, then an out & back trip on the Knott End ferry, tooDo they still have the Grand National roller coaster ride at the Pleasure Beach?
Unless you like the modern look you’ll be disappointed in the main, the quirky ones as with the ‘Lights’ will always bring a smile to my face. There is a plan, a cunning plan, to ‘do’ Blackpool, with a moving light into sunset across the water the beach and a section inc at least one part of a pier, but at present we are gathering items, and do not have the time for the area to be sorted, space is allocated, trams as you have seen have been sourced, they are not powered, but we have a donor whose workings fit, yeah! And the cove was a quick practise it will be with donkeys and ice creams and all the full ‘naff’ scenes including the seagulls stealing the chips! As Blackpool born, I have always loved the trams, sadly I haven't been up norf in 10 years (usual family fall out).
All right, I have to ask. I know that there is/was a McDonald's in Blackpool and the series of six stacked yellow "M"s in the first picture look suspiciously like the Golden Arches. Does anyone know if those are advertising or marking a station stop for McDonald's? Just wondering how far crass American merchandising has infiltrated.
Too far I'm afraid. In fact it is no longer thought as advertising, just normality. They even sponsor the hedgerows and fields for miles around their eating places, vying with Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Kentucky Fried Chicken, all freely provided by morons who think it's their duty to spread the word as far as they can. ( I'd better stop the rant now, otherwise I'd be here for ever)Just wondering how far crass American merchandising has infiltrated.![]()
Yes big profit corporations just wanting to get as much money from people that can ill afford it to make themselves richer.Too far I'm afraid. Hey, be fair! The advertising amongst the hedgerows and verges isn’t just for US-based products - Costa, M&S food, Irn Bru, Red Bull, various micro brewery offerings, etc. The Neanderthals that leave their mark are happy to promote companies from all over the globe! I often wonder what their homes must be like - probably spotless as they dump all their rubbish on the rest of us.Too far I'm afraid. In fact it is no longer thought as advertising, just normality. Blackpool was the first of its kind anywhere in the worldI'm not sure: I went on it in the mid-80's; I seem to recall it was a Coney-Island style wooden affair (or perhaps Coney Island was a Blackpool-type affair?). My favourite stretch of line is up towards Fleetwood, and then the balloon loop through the town; if I'm feeling flush, then an out & back trip on the Knott End ferry, too. I'm sad to have never made it to Fleetwood when the Manx boats made the crossing from there.
2008 I added photo still going strong.I have. Seen it more recently, but not been last few years as mil died who lived thereDo they still have the Grand National roller coaster ride at the Pleasure Beach? Probably my all time favourite coaster - not very high or fast by today’s standards but having two sets of trucks running side by side made it fun.
Thanks for the photo - I last rode on it in 1993 with my future stepdaughters (who were so impressed we had to go on it several times!)2008 I added photo still going strong.I have. Seen it more recently, but not been last few years as mil died who lived there
