Birthday Playing Trains In The Rain

Richie

Rio Grande Railroad , Mountain biking , Gardening
Saturday morning saw the Rio Grande battling to clear the snow with Rotary OY ( that was until the motor burnt out :crying: ) ready for a special day of running trains
But the weather took a turn for the worse in the afternoon with light rain and mist but that didn't put us off running trains heres a few pics of the day

Thank you for a enjoyable Birthday

A cracking afternoon despite the weather. Mike's K27 did sound absolutely awesome (I almost went merican).

Many thanks Richie and Sara for your hospitality.

Cheers Gareth was very nice to see you hope your loco and stock dried out OK .
Got to put my stock away today freight cars were still frozen from last night

Hi Richie
Just got back and put away the locos that came on holiday to your fine layout.
We both had a great time....even if Lorraine was more interested in the Wii !!
Many thanks for your great hospitatlity and the the feasting on the evening out.

T'was really good to put some faces to the 'handles' on the forum. We must work on Gareth to come over to the dark side (yank that is).
Like your rotary, my rotary motor and headlight seemed to have given up the ghost but it still wheezed and hiss like it meant business trying to impress the audience...all puff but no pant!

My old girl (the K27, not Lorraine) enjoyed have a run out on a level layout....or was it Lorraine......? Had to use the hair dryer on her when we got back to the hotel (the K27 that is!!!)
Because of how my layout is configured, it was the first tome that I had seen my SD70 With its lights really doing their stuff.....even if Rob did remark "they need a little nail varnish on them!"
Positively loved Roy's little RC steamer. I think he has won me over to saving up for a RC steam loco plus controller!

Many thanks again..I was having so much fun I forgot that I was soaked and chilled to the bone &::bigsmile::bigsmile:

Hi Mike
Good to see you got home safely would like to thank you and Lorraine for making the long journey up in such poor weather conditions . Was really nice to see you both so glad you enjoyed the week end despite the bad weather .
Hope no damage was done to your good lady (The k-27 that is ) all my stock was covered in ice when i went to put it away earlier ,now i know that a SD70 we go round my line i shall be adding one of those to my shopping list to Sara's disappointment she was convinced it wouldn't go round or she just didn't want it to go round

Regards Richie

Me likes that Heritage loco....
Think i'll do the same richie (even though i've got my christmas present to myself :rolf: )

Just as well i wasn't running trains today the garden is like a skating rink and we've had freezing fog all day :nail:
Work will start on my plows motor when it gets a bit warmer in the garage i hope it's just a wire .

Hi Richie (happy birthday for yesterday)

Thanks for putting on such a smashing afternoon, and for all those that bought along such cracking loco's really good to see them in the flesh, and to put faces to names.
Only managed to salvage a few pic's as the camera got full of rain water and froze in the car over night (Ooops good job it was the works camera did not work to good today)

Gareths Saxon looked really good especially with the those three re-painted carriages

8a9bb6c68d1d4c9b857e0f373aa334f9.jpg

and the SD70 Wow, those LED lights on the front and in the cab really were impressive
have to remember not to look straight at the front if i ever see another in the dark

da38495e06a84a97a333562aa942f888.jpg

few more pic's to follow if i can get them of the (wet) memory card

A couple of close up's of Daves Plough conversion, it was an Aristo plough on a widened and modified Bachmann gondola.

Looked the business and it shifted the snow as well, even with out any added weight.

Not very to scale rain drops i'm afraid, but it was coming down quite hard at the time, funny how you don't notice these things when you are having so much fun

Especially liked the details of the roof and support beams he has added really nice mods

One to put in my things to do list

Hi Rob
Some very nice pic's there of Dave's plow Rob  Hope there's not to much damage to your camera :wits: That reminds me i haven't checked my TE in the garage probably full of ice as it's well below zero :nail:
Sara still can't believe how we stuck it out there it's like you said you tend to forget it was raining when your having fun even thou i was frozen :nerd:
I was just worried on the day that every one else wouldn't be having fun because of the weather how wrong i was .
Regards Richie

I really did like ALL the loco's, Daves Connie ran really nice (first time out and in the rain as well) and Mike's K27 was impressive with awsome sound, hope i can salvage some of the pic's

But the real show stopper (my wife told me so) was Roys Radio controlled - Roundhouse/regner + modified steamy, great little loco

Waiting for a clear up line

dea99fe01fb147bda72cde0bcb1ef106.jpg

It ran for ages and braved Richies still snow covered logging line, incline as well,

It looked totally at home out in the wild back hills,

mmm now do i really wan't a live steamy, OH YES

So thanks again to all (especially for impresing my other half so much) i can see a slight loosening of the credit card's, if all goes well in the new year

Especially to Richie and Sara and family, for such a great afternoon.

Richie hope the Lawn recovers, and big thanks to Sara and daughter for the steaming hot soup and snacks, i'm sure they helped to kept us out there in the rain and freezing cold, well in to darkness

Hi Richie
Think the (works) camera is terminal, still trying to dry out the memory cards though
I didn't even realise how much rain there was untill i came to put on my (dry.:rolf: ) trainers to drive home, had to tip the water out  oops thought there was a roof on your pergola :clown:
Used to the cold and i had my warm work clothes in the car which helps
Have not enjoyed such good company in a long while, it all made for a very nice relaxing afternoon.
It also shows just how good all our Garden rail kit is, freezing snow and rain and not a single beat missed all day
Shame your OY was down for maintenance, but it had done it's job real well before we even got there, TOP BASH that, hope it comes out of the repair shed OK
And hope all the other LOCO's dried out and rise to run again
Dave's agreed to bring his C19 over for some clearance tests  hope it passes
i can see a nice little addition to the wood shed coming along

Thanks again

Robert and Anita

Cheers Shawn
Had a great day with great company
Will have to set up a video link for next year

Well richie I'm glad fun was had by all, sorry i missed it, Its probably a good job I did though as I've come down with flu, and I doubt the wet weather would have helped.

hope all your trains still work after facing the elements.

Dave
