Big Hauler Upgrade, and failure . . .

Catching the fever
Well, I have the early version of the Big Hauler and needed to upgrade the power pickups. I used some LGB spring loaded contacts to get the job done.

The Problem I ran into after this upgrade was that the Drive wheels stripped out, the plastic was worn from previous use as I had to "phase" the drive wheels awhile back. Is it possible to get new wheel inserts, wheels, or does anyone have a good suggestion to upgrade the wheels?

Power pickup is great now, but she is a no go loco!

Thanks in advance

This month Bachmann are offering complete chassis for 47 US $ or 55$ if you want to upgrade to an Anniversary series chassis.

Battery power may or may not be an option for you. However you may want to give it some consideration. This doesn't help with your problem at the moment, but it certainly makes running trains simpler.

My solution for poor pick-up on the BHs, was to fit simple contacts to the tender wheels and use wires (with plug and socket) to connect to the loco.

See G Scale Pictures, Ox Mountain Railway, Page 15 - besides the Big Haulers, I have applied the same technique to several other locos.

And new chassis would be great too!

PS it's even easier to do the Annie as it already has a connecting power cable! (Not that you should need to).

Sound like a job for Barry's Big Trains, I had an old Big Hauler that split a gear and I sent then axle to Barry and he fixed it.

Reasonable price as well considering I am in Australia.

Not sure that BBT is still fully operating - thought I read somewhere that Barry was retiring and winding down?
