Bagnall (?) 0-4-2t Joins The Line

Thanks to Terry (TerrySoham), I had a pleasant trip across the country to pick up a rather fine looking 0-4-2T loco which Terry had built from one of the early GRS kits. I also relieved Terry of some track and four little stake wagons.

When I got home, I felt the loco needed a quick run on Peckforton metals before entering the paintshop to adopt PLR livery.

She looks to me like a Bagnall, but I am willing to stand corrected if anyone knows better.

Thanks again to Terry for letting me buy this new addition to the railway. I'll post again when she has emerged from the workshops.

Pretty sure this is the Bagnall "Gelert" WHR[P] model kit from GRS
we have a similar one which we have never got around to finishing
maybe we will now, yours looks nice :)

If you remember, the Bagnall was in black lined livery .....

...... and the LGB timber wagons were also plain black.

Well, after a trip to the paintshops, the loco is now in the PLR livery of Rover Brooklands Green (thanks to Mr Halford), ....

I have tried to disguise the lack of outside frames by painting everything below the waist black (apart from the motion).

And the timber wagons now have a job of work to do .....

And here's everything in action today (even the sun shone!) .......

Still more to do - name, number and works plates are on order, the soundcard needs a bit more tweaking and there are a few more details to be added (eg more pipework, lamp brackets, whistle, etc.). But nearly there!

Superb paint job on the loco, totally transformed it.

Thanks folks. beginning to feel more like a PLR loco. I think the batteries need replacing - either that or this early version of the MyLocoSound soundcard is extremely thirsty!

Lovely job, will the new timber Wagons be loaded out empty return? If so be interested to see how you tie the Timber together. For my old shorty Timber Laods and kthers I use Angling Pike Wire and Cripms if that is any use as a tip.

Wonder what Batteries Terry put in it, I got his Funkey and thus far is running OK. But Charger he gave me is for NiCads so it could be the same in yours perhaps suffering Memory Effect.

Hi Jon
Yes, the loads are removable - I mounted them on boards. However, I was trying to decide how to give the appearance of strapping - couldn't decide if they would have used ropes or chains. I'm not into angling so wouldn't mind seeing a picture of the crimps you mention.

They're a pack of twelve NiMhs from Brian Jones - but look like they might have originated from Strikalite. Tried recharging after they failed, but the charger insisted they were full after only six minutes at 0.5A. If they are the originals then they could be fifteen years old - so quite possible they're on their last legs. Probably use Li-ions or maybe LiFePo4s which are supposed to be more stable. They reckon LiFePo4s have a recycle life of 2000 charges. Given that I tend to recharge my locos around twice a year, I think they should see me out ;).

I think the 'memory effect' has been disproved.
Over charging and deep discharging are more commonly associated with shorter battery life.
