Bacon Day on the Strassenbahn.

I haven't had my mates around to play trains for a while so this morning we gathered for a breakfast run before the guys pushed off to the Preston O gauge open house. Usually we break for meatandpotatoepiebakedbeansteabreadandbutter but that seemed a little excessive for breakfast, so we switched to bacon barmcakes. By a happy coincidence Mel noted today was International Bacon Day. To quote Drivelpedia "Bacon day celebrations typically include social gatherings during which participants create and consume dishes containing http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bacon < Link To bacon, including bacon-themed breakfasts."

Thanks to Andy & Martin for their pictures - we had a morning session really to try taking pictures in the morning light, anyway...
The yellow railcar made it to the Funicular station, which hasn't seen a train all year since we went fully automatic.

Thanks for looking.

Drivelpedia also mentioned bacon-based drinks :'(
Nice pixxies, in fact very nice pixxies, but the last one struck me with the Selecta machine. How often on the haul back from Lyon to Luxembourg did I dive off the train at a station with a pocketful of coins to devour the contents of those confounded machines :rolf:

Can I be one of your mates please
Great pics

Thanks for your comments, guys. Sadly the funicular never really got finished. The challenge was in making the sloping carriage but despite achieving that I never got round to the winding mechanism. The reed switches and wiring are all in place, so I'm tempted to pull it in to the garage over the winter and get it working.

SWMBO worked in France for a while and had a Selecta card which her employer topped up each week. In fact I'm pretty sure she lived off Selecta machines :rolf::rolf:. They take 'em a lot more seriously than we do.

Some great photos of your railway there....

"Maple Bacon Vodka Pancake Batter Smoothie"..... :bleh:
Go on, Pugs, I'm sure you've got the ingredients in the bar there somewhere..... ;)
Jon.
Darn, we're just out of vodka :rolf:

Can't remember the last bacon buttie I had, something for next weekend methinks

Great pics there, very nice railway :)

Me too, can't remember the last time I had a decent bacon sandwich! That photo of the rashers in the pan got my mouth watering! The bacon here is all fat and no meat!! You have to burn it to render the fat off and you end up with crispy toast!
Oh! Nice train pic's as well......

Over there, don't you refer to "proper" bacon, as required for a bacon sarnie, as Canadian Bacon?

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0109370...ff, this one is actually funny. ;) Jon.

There are very few things that I miss from the Old Country, but bacon butties are in there. I must make a visit to the British Pedlar in Navarre and pick some up. There must be a bottle of HP around here somewhere, probably dated use by 2004.

Great photos, looks like a good time was had by all.

Canadian bacon is more like ham than bacon not nearly the same as a good rasher! We used to have a 711 in Huntington Beach that imported English food stuff and we got Irish bacon which was excellent they also had walls bangers until the food police found out what was in them! Too much breadcrumbs to be classed as a sausage ..........

Thanks, I stand corrected on that one! So what do you lot out in the (ex-)colonies do with the parts of the pig that we use for "proper" bacon, then? I don't think I could live in a land without bacon sarnies....

Jon.

Sadly, pork pies are thin on the ground - think the sausages consume all the fat and gristle - but bacon is/was a staple diet here (bacon and cabbage). Even more sadder than the growlers is that I'm forbidden fatty foods.

Anyone remember Irish Roll bacon?
