Bachmann spectrom consolidation

I think that Paul is asking about the 2-8-0 by Bachmann, commonly known as "The Connie".
The tender trucks (Bogies) were the other weakness, on that locomotive, besides the splitting gear problem.
Paul is probably looking for a replacement truck(s) (Bogie) for it. They may be hard to come by in GB.
I have found that sometimes they can be repaired, as the plastic used is Styrene, and readily "Welded" with lacquer thinner, or MEC. The screws in the side frames are found by removing the simulated springs from the side frames.
At one time, replacement trucks were available from Bachmann in North America. Try checking their web page, and see if they still are. Adapting other freight trucks to the tender, is possible, but takes a bit of work on new body bolsters to accept the replacement trucks.
I doubt very much if the "Axles" themselves are damaged, as suggested by Paul, as they are metal, along with the wheels on them, and are part of the trucks (bogies).
I hope this is note is of some use, Paul.

Hi has any one got any axles for tender of the Bachmann consolidation my ones are damaged thanks Paul
There's nothing available on the Bachmann estore (North America) and I've also looked to see whether there are any complete trucks for the C-19, K-27 or large Mogul (not the mining mogul as the wheel and trucks are way too small).

The thing is that the axle arrangement is rather generic to Bachmann as the wheels have large inner shoulders to take the power contact wipers. One of the things that makes these reliable runners (once you've sorted out their foibles) is the wide span of pick-ups.

Just checking Greyfox - it's definitely wheel damage? Can you show a piccy?

I suspect it is the 2-8-0 with Baker valve gear not the C-19. I can't see how you could damage the metal axles.
They are available from Bachmann spare parts for US$38.60 each: Tender Truck (Large 2-8-0 Consolidation) [G813X-0AR02] - $38.60 : Bachmann Trains Online Store!
Fairly expensive considering they only have plastic side frames plus added shipping etc.
If you are after replacement metal trucks, perhaps Al Kramer still has some larger heavy duty arch bar trucks as found on the Bachmann framed tank cars. They are bigger than those on the boxcars, flatcars and gondolas.

You can indeed repair a broken Connie truck frame with a good "plastic weld" solvent type product. The breakages are usually where the frame mounts to the bolster. They occur due to the self tapper screw holding the side frame to the bolster being too short and not having enough purchase on the bolster allowing the frame to gradually work loose and break . So, after repairing any breakage you should also re secure the side frame to the bolster with a longer self tapper. Be aware the mount screw for the pickups may limit the extra length of screw you can use. You may have to drill deeper to fit the longer screw and it might be an idea to repeat the process on all the truck frame to bolster joints to reduce the risk of further failures. At least that is what I did when I experienced this issue a few years ago. Max

Max; You hit the nail on the head, with your description of "How to repair the truck (Bogie)"

A preemptive strike is even better

But our man says it's the wheel, that's why I've asked for a piccy

That's not a bad price, but when I searched earlier, they weren't listed :confused:

OK, just under £80 dollars for two, but then you've got the exorbitant US postage - but you gotta do it to keep Connie on the road

OK - a health warning when you use the Bachmann estore website.

When the little counter at the bottom of the screen tells you that you have viewed five pages, and it looks like that's all there is, ignore it and press 'Next' and another five pages magically appear o_Oo_Oo_O

Have you tried Bachmann UK?

When I had two of these years ago they had replacement parts available from vandalising tenders - worth a phone call I'd say.
