Bachmann Porter crank pins

I was given what I think is an early Bachmann Porter 0-4-0 chassis which I'm hoping to bash into a Manning Wardlish loco. I can't get the crank pins off. They're plastic and I don't want to put too much force on them in case I break something.

Any ideas how they come off?

I had a similar problem. Finally got them off using a home made cobbled together puller to gently extract them . DO NOT even consider trying to twist them. It will not go well - I can verify that!
