Is there is a remote chance that you - or someone you know - might just have a Mikado chassis spare? Please?

Its just the chassis I need, I have the drive block and boiler.

Thanks for looking.

Hi Mike. Did the Mikado and Pacific share the same moulding? If so, I might just have one in the garage somewhere. Don't hold your breath - I will try and find time tomorrow to conduct a search.
Mike. (Another one).

Morning Mike

Thanks for the lightning fast response. Please note correction to thread title, my apologies.

According to the Aristo Exploded Parts they are the same:

Mikado: 21400-33 Chassis
Pacific: 21400-33 Chassis

But I am not 100% confident that these are always accurate, so please let me check a key measurement before you start unpacking your shed/loft/garage.

Will get back to you today.

Many Thanks for trying.

To the best of my knowledge there are two different Pacific mechanisms and one Mikado. The Mike differs from both Pacifics and the exploded parts diagram number for the Mike chassis is 21500-33, not 21400-33 which is for the Pacific.
However the later Pacific chassis may be common with the Mike.

Many Thanks Neil.

Yes I entirely agree with your first sentence - the newer Pacific is different from the older Pacific chassis and they're both different from the Mikado.

But my edition of the Aristo Exploded Parts for the Mikado shows part # as 21400-33 Chassis. It has an ID under the page number of 071003 that I guess is the date. Could you check this ID on yours please? Can I have a copy?

Best

Well here's a surprise update. Just measured the crucial distance between the front and rear motor block mounting posts as follows:

Newer Pacific: 220mm
Mikado; 220mm

So it looks like (absent any other differences) that there are only the two chassis types after all - Older Pacific vs Pacificado (Newer Pacific/Mikado). And Neil was right - again!

Mike, when you get a chance and if I'm in luck, could you please check the same measurement for me please?

Another case of speedy progress on this forum. Thank you both.

mike

Hi Mike,
My sources are

http://www.aristocraftforum.com/exploded_parts/ART21400_PACIFIC-462.pdf

and

http://www.aristocraftforum.com/exploded_parts/ART21500_MIKADO.pdf

Logically the set of sheets for the Pacific and Mikado will have different numbers even for common
parts.

Edit.
P.S. that Pacific diagram is for the earlier version

Yep, the Mikado and the Pacific shared the same chassis. In fact due to similar mouldings for the the boiler etc, some have called it the 'Pacifikado'.

The motor and gearing gear were changed so that each axle has its own gearbox and flywheel and I am not sure if it was done at the same time on both types of loco.

I have a Mikado with one broken gearbox (both of the wheels and axles have separated from the gear itself).
I am hoping to get a spare gearbox/axle assembly from Navin when I go over to New York at the end of the month (I have already spoken to him about it so he does have one,... but only the one, apparently, that he has put aside for me!).

Many Thanks to both.

Yes Neil that's the same version I have. I agree that using the model number suffix would be logical but that's not what Aristo did in the Parts list on page 6!

I had asked Navin whether he had any chassis earlier this year but he didn't. But I'd like to check with him again - Mike can you please confirm that he is still using the *****electronics2********** address? Have a good trip

Ooops sorry. I have had a letter from Specsavers stating my eyesight test is overdue!

Ask and ye shall receive, hopefully. Well here it is Mike. Still has some pipework and tanks attached. I can't see any damage to the main chassis, but it's not pristine. As I don't have the motor block I didn't know where to measure from, but was a little concerned as there is a rebate for a driving wheel centrally which made me think Pacific. There is no obvious part number to refer to. If any good, it's yours for a tenner including postage. It would have been less but it's too long for a small packet so will incur medium parcel rate.

Many thanks for speedy reply Mike. Sorry for delay Can't upload with FF again.

Not pristine is fine by me. Can you please measure between the motor block mounting posts fore and aft, something like this:

Back to the drawing board I'm afraid Mike. It's 200mm between the points marked, not the 220 you desire. Sorry I can't be of assistance.
Good luck with your search. Regards Mike.

Thanks very much indeed for checking Mike. That's as I feared when I was studying your pix, but its always difficult to see exactly what's what and where when you're looking at black against black.

I see your avatar looks not a million miles from mine. I was going to keep this Mikado motor block for a Garratt build but had decided against that. Maybe I'll have to review that decision..... Can't find any video of yours running on GSC, or is there?

All the best. I'll keep looking.

Hi Mike. My Garrett is still not finished after nearly 4 years - there always seemed to be something more pressing to tackle. Just for you have uploaded the only video clip i have of it in action - Hemsby Valley Railway 13 on YouTube. Link below.
It's a botch of two stretched Bachmann Big Haulers.

Back on track:

Is there is a remote chance that you - or someone you know - might just have a Mikado or New Pacific chassis spare? Please?

Well I changed my mind and asked Mike if I could have his chassis after all.

Arrived safely today, and is just what I was expecting, So another big success thanks to Mike and GSC.

Thank You

I hope you don't mind but I need the details pack of air pumps, bell and whistle - has anyone got these spare?
