Jimmy, see my comment on the Exeter Show thread, as these will not be Aristo couplings.

However, if you post a picture of the coupling in situ, people may be able to assist

Rhino, I understand that these are Aristo Craft hook and loop, though doesn't matter, just need to source some springs:

First photo shows the spring pocket, and just above it the pip for locating the other end of the spring.

In case you missed it in th "Exeter" thread Jimmy, with some editing -

You can usually find materials suppliers at these sort of shows and on-line that sell 12" lengths of compression springs, around 3 mm dia' that suit the" Aristo'" couplers, that you can then snip to length. Also pump action hand wash bottles and cleaning product "squirty" guns are good source of the right dia' springs too. That's what I resorted to, as they are prone to drop out, when I had Aristo' stock and no factory spares, handy items to have around. If my memory serves me well the same springs work in some Aristo trucks/axle guards and Bachmann locos for their suspension, where fitted. Then again some kind soul on here might have a few spares. Those cars and some other clerestory types made by USAT(Delton ?) are way nicer than the more basic Bachmann offerings. Max

Rhino - Aristo/Bachmann I can't remember, but not USAT. But I had a few cars supplied with those whe I started 15 years ago and was into mainly 1:29. Switched it all to knuckles though. Hook and loop never look right to me.

Apologies, I could be wrong, but I hadn't remembered Aristo providing the hook and loop as an alternative, in the way that Bachmann did / do.

Better to switch they over to LGB couplers but if you want to keep them some springs in cheap ball point pens fit.

When I used these in addition to the springs regularly coming out I had to catch the tails shorter to stop them catching on points, all in all they were a total pain to use.

Aristo mounts their hook/loop coupler differently than LGB/USA Train/Bachmann (these are compatible with each other for mounting).

You will actually find that the Aristo-Craft hook and loop couplings don't even fit all their stock very well as their older models came from several different manufacturers. Aristo used the old R.E.A design but these don't fit their Delton Classics range very well as Hartland got the rest of the Delton tooling including the those for the Delton hook and loop couplings. The Hartland ones are actually much better.
