Just in case you've not seen it, the Apedale Valley Light Railway's WW1 event in September should be well worth visiting. In addition to the Simplex Tin Turtles

there's going to be a Mk IV tank and loads of other exhibits (inc. some WW1 themed model railway layouts) - and Swift Sixteen.

PS - Is there a way of reducing the size of URL-based images when posting - they always seem to come up full size??

I "Saved Image as" to one of my photo folders and opened with Microsoft Picture-it and resized as below (hope it worked!

I came across the Apedale website quite by chance last week and noticed the event and was surprised it hadn't been mentioned here. If I were able to, I'd have loved to have gone but it seems unlikely I will be be
able to, so thanks for the photos, Rik.

Did you see Michael Portillo's Railways of the Great War series last week, btw?

Thanks Mick - just wondered if there was some magic setting to do that automatically without having to download the images first.

Yes - my brother mentioned it when he came on a visit yesterday and so I thought he (and others on here) might be interested in the gala event - a useful venue for us both as it is on the way home for him so we can meet up there. He used to work at Paxman's on diesel engines so Apedale will be of particular interest to him.

I was always a steam enthusiast first and foremost and regarded i/c locos with disdain until I went on one of Apedale's open days. There's something very appealing about Simplex locos and the like - I now regard them as 'honorary' steam locos. I might even consider investing in one of those rather fine Swift Sixteen Tin Turtle kits to potter around the copper mine on my railway.

I did see part of it - isn't it the Mosely Trust? And also is the site in Derbyshire? It isn't that I don't pay attention, I just forget ;D

Sadly, the sites in Staffordshire, but you're right about the Moseley Trust. If it was Derbyshire, I'd have tried to go.

Cheek, all the best things come from Staffordshire :D
Anyway, the thing missing from the above pic of the WWI tank is the mud

Thanks Gordon - don't know what made me think of Derbyshire!

Mud. Mud. Glorious Mud. Nothing quite like it for cooling the blood ........
