Anyone Used Digitrax Super Chief for their G Scale Railway?

I am going to be setting up a DCC system and am looking at a full NMRA spec system for the longer term future. I would like a reasonable amount of power and, I believe, it needs to supply quite a high voltage to drive the amps through when load on loco gets higher.

I believe LGB has currently their own version of NMRA and Massoth needs a mortgage. Having looked around, it does seem that Digitrax does provide higher voltage and a decent amount of amps and I do like their european compliant full duplex handsets which can control 2 locos simultaneously.

Does anyone actually own a Digitrax system for their G Scale Railway? Are you happy with it, any limitations, etc?

Thanks
Ernie

I'm mainly analogue for G..but I have a Zephyr...for OO...and I've used it for testing some MTS fitted locos...it's fine...but only 2.5 or 3 amps depending which version.....oh, and 12 volts...

Strangely enough, last night I was using it to configure and test some DS52 point motor drivers..these work fine with lgb point motors

What I find invaluable is CV readback.....I think the superchief has this too

I don't think that the digitrax system is designed for extremes of climate outdoors....

There's quite a bit of it around second hand, especially the DB150 command centre, which can be configured as just a 5A booster. I've seen someone running a temporary layout outside just with Digitrax...he didn't seem to have any problems.

I use a DCS50 in the 'workshop' on the programming track.. Less likely to fry things with lower voltages etc.

I have a couple of DB150's and a DT402 (I think it is) Throttle..
Digitrax are very good when you fry something. Turn-round is better than Massoth. - I have had to use both! >:( :( :(

There are 'features' no matter who's kit you use.. You only find these 'down the line' when things do not do exactly what you ask of them.
The number of functions available may be a problem..

Perhaps look at a Piko system?? - This is a '21st century' MTS system.. Made by Massoth. - The controller boot message is 'Piko by Massoth'. Oh, and it is a Navigator handset, just silver with a red dial..

I use Digitrax in my garden here in Northwest Florida.

The control units and power pack is in the garage and the transmitter/receiver unit is in a water proof housing outside.

Works well with a good range for the hand held controller.
