I just wondered if there was slim chance that there might be a B unit out there that the owner might be willing to sell on?

It doesn't matter if it hasn't any trucks even.

Thank you for looking.

i sold one to steve large,,,,, a few years ago,,, not seen him around for a while though

Thanks - about 2.5 years ago I reckon! I'll see if I can find his address (I used to have it because I sent him stuff).

Not to worry - a few days ago I wouldn't have known the difference!

maby its worth confirming that they are f3s

it clearly states fa1 and b so maby they are aristo and wrongly advertised

price could be ok for a pair of aristos but on the cheep side for f3s

Even if the the shop has got it wrong, I only want a B unit (Bank of Mum & Dad is teetering close to melt down thanks to the needs of offspring!:().

Mike - you are always helpful. Besides, I now have your pic of the unit, Peter's measurement. These two things are all I need to build my own B unit.

yes but a b is harder to sell than an a unit,,, they may split

You might be right but I might build my own. I like the idea of running one of the Fa-1s on my trailer layout. If I scratchbuild one (non-motorised) I would alter the coupling arrangement to take account of the R1s and the reverse curves. I'm just mulling it over at the moment. Paint might be the hardest to match - unless somebody knows different!

I have a spare Aristo B unit, it is in working order but in UP livery. I bought it for make an A+B+B unit but it is slower running than the other pair and causes problems!
If it is of use I am sure we can come to an agreement. It would need to be well packed as I do not have a box for it.

Conversation started - apart from a repaint, this would stay 'as is' for the other FA-1.

Just one thing to bring into the discussion... (hoping that it has not been mentioned already..apologies if it has)
Aristocraft updated the FA1 ('A' and 'B' unit) and these amendments were..
Better truck motor/gear/wheel bearing/power pickup set up
Axle ends no longer go into side frames
Heavier overall with added weight and heavier trucks
Lowered body with smaller gap between the truck and body.

The newer version is faster (for the same voltage ie more efficient) and better tractive-wise than its predecessor.

Greg's website has a good source for info on the Aristo FA1:

Ha! Wasn't aware Mike - thanks for bringing it to my attention. I followed your link to Greg's site - it's quite detailed isn't it? It is still a learning curve for me!
