Any ideas what this circuit board might be?

Just been going through my collection of DCC bits and pieces and I came across this:

The board measures 50mm x 19mm and has ten leads attached. Red, orange, black and grey are thicker than the others (purple, white, brown, green, yellow). There is a diode which is prominent where the wires emerge from the insulation sleeve. I cannot remember how I came by it - it`s never been used. I don`t think it`s actually DCC related as there don`t seem to be many components on the board.

Any ideas?

You're going to have to take its' clothes off Rik! ;)

Are the big lumps the right shape for relays?
OR,
Some sort of multi-rail power supply??

I thought I'd wait in case someone recognised it fully clothed as I'll want to sell it (if it's worth anything). The four blobs feel about the same size and shape as the diode and there's a chip mounted longitudinally between them.

Probably a DCC decoder of some sort - you say it has RED/ORANGE/BLACK/GREY as thicker wires - they're the standard NMRA colours for pickup and motor wires. The others will be function outputs, you should have minimum BLUE/WHITE/YELLOW for common/front/rear lights.

We need to have a google around to match the actual brand and model. I don't recognise it at present. Do you know anyone local with JMRI & SPROG who could hook it up and identify it? I could but we'd need to post it back and forth.

Could be an old MRC decoder like this one? - looks similar

[edit]Yep, that's what it is I reckon. I found another image that looks identical

Get its kit off....so we can see it...there might just be a code number of name on the pcb..........it can easily be covered again in heatshrink.
'Neck-ed' electronics!! :o 8) ;) ;)

Thanks - that's brilliant

You can have a Gold Star !!!! (Don't get too excited!)

Just need to figure out whether it's worth selling - any offers?

Think they were sold off cheap by MRC when discontinued - less than $10. Can't find much about them. In general I always got the impression that MRC's large scale decoders weren't popular.

Thanks for that. As I said, no idea how I came by it. Oh well. Might try putting it on eBay with a 99p starting price and see what happens.

I have a couple of G scale MRC Sound Decoders which I brought from my local model shop for around £60 a piece, a few years ago.

Fitted to a Shoema and a V51.

Not sure if yours is a sound equipped decoder though, but at least it gives you an idea for a price....
