Another loco joins the fleet

Too much of a good thing is nearly enough.

The latest loco to be prepared for use is No54, obtained from the Private sales section with some bodywork damage, it has been some time in the shops over the winter.

On arrival it was in the drab Pennsy green.

I am quite pleased with the 'British' look, helped by the lack of the bodyside railings.
The livery is GWR chocolate and cream as applied to their passenger stock, which really suits the locos.

All I need now is some warm weather.

very tastey sid!!

Thanks Mike.
For those who dont know I have quite a few locos in the 'Fleet' colours as well as a number of trams.
I will add a few photos of the others.
It started with a loco to haul non-powered tram trailers until I could afford a proper LGB tram loco.
So a few of the trusty Stainz joined the fleet.

Then a Critter was enlisted for depot and works trains

Things got a bit larger when a S4 got a repaint, but by now I was hooked and had 'found' a home livery.

A pair of Bachmann locos that had arrived looking like toys were next in the line

...but for size you cant beat a Beyer-Garret

All the engines are hand painted with Rail Match paint, they are not exhibition standard by any means, but it gives a personal touch to the fleet for me.

Here is one of the trams that started it all, a simple repaint of the Bachmann toastrack car.

I had been looking for a suitable livery for repainted models for a year or two and a few ideas were tried on an 'Otto' from the spares box, but this scheme, obviously borrowed straight from the 'GWR', was an instant hit with me. It just looks right and is ideal for a 'Rule 8' railway.

One of the Bachmann closed cars.
So far I havent repainted any LGB Trams into the livery as I havent found a rough cheap one, and maybe never will!

An example of before and after, I think I did post this on another thread so apologies if it is old news!

This NW2 came from Steve Large in a sort of 'Primer' finish, again via the GSC Private Sales section.
I dont repaint pristine engines, so it fitted the bill well.

After quite a deal of effort rubbing down etc, the NW2 looks ready for its new life.

The chocolate & cream really suits your fleet Syd. It is a great colour scheme. I used to drive an electric Harbilt milk float in the earl 80's painted in chocolate & cream & that looked good. Got a couple of photos somewhere. Will have to see if i can borrow a scanner & get them posted on here for you to see.

Not all the chocolate and cream stock is repainted......todays sunny weather brought out the live steam locos with suitable coaches for an afternoons running.

A few locos repainted recieved more traditional colours.
'Monarch' is in Great Western green, which is appropriate for the loco anyway.

Like that very much. What drive units are used for the loco?

I think it has 'Bachmann' parts used in the power department. The loco was scratchbuilt by our 'Midwalestokie' but using some salvaged componants, a converted Stainz cab for example, and is battery powered with radio control.
It arrived needing some TLC and in a shade of light green that i just couldnt live with!

Nice to see Monarch and the Garratt are still being used Sid!!

The power units are a pair of Stainz chassis, the older metal geared versions. Two 7.2v batteries provide the power and an electronize speed controller controls everything. At least that's what it was like when I made it, Sid may have completely rebuilt it!!

It is still as you built it James.
All I did was re-fix the dome slightly neater, fill and sand the cab sides as they had quite a bit of pitting and re-glue and strengthen some of the joints......and then gave it a new coat of paint. It gets regular use in the summer and is a credit to your construction skills.

Another rake that didnt need a repaint is the 'Pullmans'
Usually hauled by the dedicated Mallet

......although Steam is employed for the evening Dining excursions

It is usual for Lady Anne to work all the steam specials as she can manage the five coach rake with ease

........however for those enthusiast excursions something bigger is requested.

WOW! Both really, really nice locos.

The really big engines have always been a favorite of mine. The MTH Challengers and Big Boys have impressive factory fitted sound which works quite happily on analogue power. This is the passenger version in silver grey and can easily haul ten alluminium cars even up the gradients on the home rails. It has a somewhat lighter load here however.

That doesnt mean the humble Stainz isnt loved as well, just as well as quite a few are on the roster.
Here No8 trundles along with a matching trailer car in the home colours.

What a splendid repainting job. The Stainz looks like it was designed for it! Splendid!
