After the astronomically priced Asters, comes a beautiful and well priced Garratt

I'll be interested to see if he gets any bids as his reserve seems to be £3500. I bought mine 2 years ago, same spec' and condition, £2995. I thought then I was "wanting it too much" given the price I paid. Sold a few bits - kidney, lung, right arm - to pay for it.:bigsmile:

Also noted that the photos only show 1 side of the loco and essentialy only 2 veiws, front 3/4, rear 3/4. I always reckon that 1 good well choosen photo is worth a 1000 words on Ebay. I always wonder why sellers, especially with high value items, do not ake more trouble to set up and select the pictures they submit. Might get more and hiigher bids if they did. Sorry, a pet peeve of mine.

Hmmm!!!! V/nice. I reckon the start-price is probably about right (in this day) for the end of sale, so I would be surprised to see too many bids.

I'd dearly love one of these, having played beside the real things, but it's a little on the rich side for little old me.

{Don't forget the one I flagged up some months back that was a hoax}

Dosent it look spiffing? presumably by the name I'd suspect an African prototype?

Yes re the pictures I tend to agree, if it were I, I'd post more pics with more detail... But then some people dont really want to sell and just post pics on eBay to boast....

South African Narrow Gauge (2' 0") Trev, as opposed to South African Std. Gauge which is still Narrow Gauge but 3' 6"

I don't know if I'm alone in this but I cannot get excited about these models, I find them ugly. The modifications made by the vendor in order to get it to run to his satisfaction dosn't inspire confidence either.

Garry, one mans meat is another's .... I can see where you are coming from and you maybe right...but then I love the look of American steamers and they really do not have much pretence to beauty like a good British loco with smart colour and brass.

Ahh well Garry, you see I got inspired by those 'bendy toys' over 50 years ago, in the middle of the dark continent. Most were a lot bigger than the NG16. Even so, each to his own, and for those brought up on a diet of A4s, black 5s and others, I daresay they will look a tad out of place, but ugly? Not to me. :admire::admire:

7 years ago I did not even know "narrow gauge" existed, really, honest. Then there is this mate of mine who kept going on about Garratt locos. I just happen to have a love of the mechanically weird and wonderfull. The NG16 is a combination made in heaven in my eyes. Lets face it just about every modern Electric/Deisel Electric/MU is a decendant of that concept, not forgetting the contibution from Mallets and Fairleys. Check out The Douglas Self Site, utter heaven.

A strange brew of wheel arrangements! Interesting site too, Max :thumbup:

I think when a loco gets to the stage of a Garrat It becomes a problem more than fun.Too much to go wrong in my book..Still wouldn't mind it though.......:love:

It's no more complicated than looking after 2 live steam locos. In fact less - you only have one boiler and its fittings and one R/C transmitter/reciever to work :rolf:
Seriously, once sorted they are fine reliable runners and spectacular to watch with everything whirling around. I think it was the first run builds that gave them their undeserved reputation. They needed a bit more development, with the right mod's they run fine. Check one of Main 131's videos on YouTube some time of his NG16 + matching crane - now that is a combo I would like - but I have run out of spare body parts.
Max.

Max.

Now that is nice :bigsmile: way over my budget don't think wifey will buy me another live steamer :laugh:

That crane is something else......:love::love:

An empty Aster box!! ...Now you're talking........ seems like a good price for one! :rolf:
Ahhh yes now we are talking... I see a great OPPORTUNITY HERE... I could make nice Blackwood dovetailed boxes, brand them up, sell them on eBay at considerable profit.....Even if I had to undecut the genuine article and sell them at a giveaway price....
