Advice on disposing of an N gauge collection

A friend's mum has a large collection of N scale items that she would like to dispose of since her husband passed away. There are quite a lot of items - locos, track, rolling stock, track, etc. - some still in their original (unopened) boxes. There are also some building kits that have not been assembled.

My friend asked me if I had any suggestions on how best to dispose of this collection but I have no experience of this scale. Just wondered if anyone is aware of any reputable retailers in N who might be interested in acquiring pre-owned items such as these (her location is the Watford/Hemel/Luton area). Thanks in advance.

One option (which I have used very successfully in disposing of the collection of a long-standing friend) is to make contact with Vectis Auctions. See what they have to say - offices on Teesside and in Oxfordshire - they're nice people.

There is or was a Model Railway Shop in Kings Langley High St (.Neots EDIT bloody auto correct), he may be interested. He does have second hand in stock usually.

Thanks, Jon. I'd completely forgotten about them (and also the shop on the roundabout in Aston Clinton!)

Try to find local model railway club, they would probably help out

Not had a lot of luck with local clubs in the past, I'm afraid. First one I went along to spent an hour telling me why my car was "a load of ***" and that G Scale was for people who didn't have the skill to model in smaller scales. Second one just ignored me after showing me where the tea and coffee making facilities were. It seems that unless you were at infant school with the members then you're not welcome.

I hesitate to say it was a geographical or scale thing, but the few times I've visited G scale places like Chasewater I've been made to feel really welcome.

Junction 20 is the name of the shop in Kings Langley, it looked like it was still there a couple of weeks ago .
