I visited a few days ago and suddenly I am getting big, page-wide banner ads. Hmm.. I thought I must be logged out, but no - the system said I was logged in and my avatar is on the top right.

I'm still getting big banner ads. What happened?

Edit: I figured it out - my ad-free year is up. HOWEVER I only paid £15 and now it is £17.45 for 1 year !! That's great inflation. Maybe I'll stay with the ads.

I *think* there was a hiccup, the other day? - Possibly a reload, or update???

Even seeing Ad's in 'Conversation' threads. - I do not think I have ever seen them there before?
 
Yeah I've noted a couple of cases of ads in quoted replies. Both when quoting posts by Greg E as it happens.
 
I am a bit worried about the ads which are supposed to be tailored to our needs. First far eastern wives, then labels for our clothing in care homes, since then bendy buses & new properties in the US but now womens underwear. My wife wonders what is going on.
 
Perhaps, it is as a consequence of all the pictures we are posting? - More server-space = more-expense for Paul & Lisa?? :(

'course, now I has a Smartie-Phone.. My pictures will be bigger then the 3.2 mega-pixels, of my Dad's old Sony camera! :eek::sweating:

My year of ad free subscription shortly comes up for renewal. My feeling is that this forum is certainly worth the under twenty quid it costs. Unless we either pay for the forum or let the ads pay, we will loose out big time.
 
I refuse to pay for ad-blockers, and I can't give a Castlemaine XXXX about the ads - there's one now offering me rather vulgar striped shirts entitled 'Newchic' - really? :eek::eek:

There are a number of pretty effective free ones such as Adblock Plus that you might want to consider. It is the one that I have used for a number of years and find it makes many sites tolerable.
 
The ads for body armor and camouflage clothing that I get are a little scary with today's environment.

I am sorry, I "filtered" my response for the general public.

I am "seeing" a number of things, that are not exactly "ads" that my blockers are stopping.

Most are better known as trackers, mostly associated with amazon and google...

Also I block the social media trackers...

Sorry for the lack of clarity...

I feel for my subscription money I am entitled to block anything I want, hopefully that is ok... otherwise let me know...

This new forum software is going to make it very difficult to use the site without paying up.

You will note the top banner takes up 1/2 the screen at 100%. Then if you try to get rid of it by clicking the X in the top right corner, you get this:

Normally Google will time out and take the blank space away - not here. You will also notice that the GSC menu is visible behind the white space halfway down.

Paul - I think there's a parameter problem here. This makes the site unusable unless you pay the ransom.

I feel left out no ads :( I used to get a lot for skimpy underwear ones o_O but don't like them they aren't comfortable :rofl: :rofl:
