Yes, you thought that the exodus of aero engineers that happened in Derby in the early seventies, to the railway research centre in that city was the first time it happened? You were wrong. It happened in the late fifties too. Four idiots from Rolls Royce, who to be fair had been paid way over the odds for doing SFA for years, decided they could have a future in the design and construction of railway locomotives using the aircraft technology available at the time. I will be following them on their quest by updating this thread on an occasional basis. Already the bodyshell has been honed out of...er...plastic and is laid out as per the photograph below. You might be aware of the American train, the M10000, Surprisingly photos of this unit are hung up in the intrepid fellows office in Uttoxeter. The left hand image appears to show it flying, this of course is an "in joke" between the four of them. Oh, how we laughed.
