Addition to my Layout.

Trainman

All narrow gauge and industrial railways,
Just recently I went through a red light at work (I am a train driver)- read that as beeing in the poo bigtime!:@ But there has to be a silver lining to every situation and over the time I added onto my layout. Previously I built one with track spline- this has lasted very well but after 5 years outside is a little tired (but still structuraly sound).

While I was off I decided to extend the existing railway along the back fence and up the side. This is a 22 meter run followed by another 16 meter run. I had no intention of making more spline (lots of work) so purchased 17mm tanalised ply and painted it with bitumen paint. What an effort- it is a dirty, smelly job but has proven worthwhile. We have one small section to go (the return loop) but have had the inaugural run with live steam and radio control Baugley. All is fine so far.

Due to my track laying abilities we got in the "picky crew".:) All I had to do was feed and water them all day and all was sweet.

The points I got from Aristocraft on special (stainless steel) which contrast with the brass track but at that price I really wasn't too worried. Detailed below is the end of the extension. Sorry didn't work for some reason. Will follow up later.

Do you not find that the bitumen goes soft and sticky in the hot? sun
