Yes it will still be track powered and they've put the mth DCC ish sound system worth twice as much as the loco.
Very poor listing as it doesn't clarify whether the loco is just chipped, or if it includes the control remote you need to access the sounds. I suspect not.

I've got one of these - sans 'MTH DCS proto 3' (whatever that is !) But it is No 177.. clearly missed out by 1:(
 
This was a popular conversion back many years ago. One member on another forum started a business enterprise converting non-MTH locomotives with MTH sound systems. From memory, an indexed flywheel was used to synch the chuff rate. Apparently it was a decent sound system.

You did! I have both - worn the plating off the wheels of the 177 (my first foray into G Scale railways!) - and 178 is nice also (as the Annies are).
 
At least his generosity stretches to free p n p, these days with G that could be a tidy sum.
