Well, I found a live steam Allegheny. On the way, little used. Does anyone out there own one of these, or have experience operating one? Wondering if green velvet iso320 is appropriate for this thing. Does lower steam pressure affect the characteristics of the heavier steam oil? Thanks, Mike.
I got a Ruby from a guy that had been modified into a 2-4-2 with tender and is set up to go forward when the Johnson Bar is in reverse and visa versa. It has hours on it, but I don't know much about its run history. Here's my problem: when it has full water, steam oil, and butane, it looses...
I have used Green Velvet for all of engines from new, excluding the Roundhouse engines. Green Velvet is what I would recommend, it doesn't coke up in the superheater tube in the flue. Some oils will simply burn up in the tube as the locomotive is coming up to pressure. I have had to clean a superheater tube more than once because someone used poor quality oil.
