Hi all.
Here are two clips of the first bit of track to go down on my line. I know it's 5" and not G but it got quite a bit of interest on the old forum when I posted pics of the trackbed with the tunnel and viaduct! Anyway, in the midle of July I got 120ft laid and ran with no problems. There will be around 650ft in total in a dog bone shape with this stretch double track, a loop at one end going over the 65ft viaduct and the loop at the other end going round the house.
Hope you find it interesting.
Cheers
Rob

It is looking terrific, even the stonework inside the tunnel looks weathered like the real thing!
Followed your link to youtube clip and also found this one:

The track is from a firm called PNP, it is plastic sleepers that are from recycled plastic that is UV resistant and have a wood grained finish. the chairs are also like this and screw into the sleepers, they also sit on a little offset spigot that can be used to give two amounts of guage widening!
The rails are 5/8 alli and are rolled through a rail bender to get the right curve and take any stress and strain out of the track. the ends have to be cut and drilled to fit the fish plates which are exactly like the real thing. the sleepers have hollow sections underneath and so need to be wriggled down into the ballast which then grabs and locks everything in place. The ballast is 6mm granite chippings, 20 tons in the bit you see in the films! You can also just make out the tunnel roof in one film, it is 26 concrete railway sleepers! Built to last this line! :) The big retaining walls and the tunnel mouths were built using lime mortar so that is why you get all those lovely mineral build ups on the walls and also the staligtites in the tunnel mouths.
On the subject of wieght giving better running, you would think so but it is not the case, as in all scales you need a very good base and very carefully laid track, even the biggest loco's will just drop off the track if there is the slightest problem. You have to go to a lot of effort on any trackbed but then you can almost forget about it and just run instead of constantly correcting problems and to me there is nothing more annoying in this hobby than continual derailments.
Cheers
