A day at Beeston Market Station - in 8 minutes

Got the video camera out last week when we were having a spell of fine weather and took a video of an entire timetabled "day's" working at the main station - Beeston Market. I then edited me out and compressed it 10x. Hope you enjoy.

Superb bit of Vid. Interesting involvment with Passenger Stock Changes during the day.
Couple of observations.
1 Mid Morning Up (I think) managed to side swipe the Coaches on Run Round. Perhaps some Fouling Point Indicators might be worth while.
2 No sign of Puffers Watering or Going to Shed for Coal part way through a Diagram. New job for you some Water Cranes and a Coaling Road. You could get away with a Coal Wagon next to where you dump the Coaches during Freight Movements so that a Loco coukd sit Coaling from a Wagon for a Minute or two between workings. A Water Column next to it would complete the illusion. Must say that I need to attend to this some more on my line.
3 Railcar only appears to do one trip. Perhaps a chance for a very early Workmens Train?

Observations given in the spirit of one who can appreciate anothers love of Operations. Also your Vid gives the unitiated a clue about how a real Railway runs and very well it does that too. So many thanks for the time you took to make it.

Pehaps the next one will be about a typical days Wagon Movements on the complete line! Me thinks that that will take more than 2 half days to produce.

Hi Jon
Thanks for your observations.
I like the idea of the early workman's train. Normally I attach a four-wheeled coach to the first ore train of the day but I forgot - I did attach it to the last train, though.

Water towers and a water crane are on the todo list. My locos have been getting thirsty for over ten years now, it's about time I gave them a drink. I like the idea of the coaling wagon - though I might put a coaling stage at the end of the platform, like they had at Southwold.

You're too eagle-eyed. You weren't supposed to spot the loco clipping the coach when running round. I was using the inertia control on the Tx handset and it's sometimes a bit hit-and-miss where the train stops.

What a busy day you had. Really enjoyable. The view along Beeston Market station area is very picturesque and just perfect for allowing you to do this video. A loved the way a group of passengers alighted from the train and then moved down to the exit.

Thanks Greg
I realised after the first few movements that the same passengers had been waiting for the different trains for a while, so changed them. Then realised I could do a bit of trickery by getting them to 'move' in between shots. Being a rural location, they tend to move, then stop and stare, and generally have a chat with each other - why hurry??

Forgot to mention all the other little delights that you included like indeed the Passengers that Gregh mentioned plus the Road Lorry. Yes I did notice that the later quarry Train included a coach and thought it may have been the Pay Wagon comming out from storage at the Quarry to pick up the Wages next day. The guy that does the Wages would not need the security of a pay Coach on his return so could come back to HQ on a Service Train.

One final point, having seen the Video of the SLR I have to say that you have very much captured a look and feel of Southwold Station. The Ore Trains and Railcar being the only thing that would be out of the frame. But hey Rule 1, it all works superbly. Even the Scale and Gauge is correct!

Excellent and interesting. I have always had a continuous run but may think again after seeing the interest here. Thanks
My line operates to a Timetable like Rik's. I do though have a Continuous Run but it rarely gets used as the Timetable Running is so absorbing.

Excellent film. I didn't read the above comments thoroughly, but do you have a schedule pre-thought out plan to shunt the wagons ?

Thats a great little video Rik. Ive spent many hours watching shunting operations, and even riding on shunting locos (steam and diesel), and your vid gives a good sense of the real thing.

Ive even photographed the damage to a diesel that had a bump error while shunting.

I hope you hold a full inquiry into the bump episode on your vid ( yes i noticed it too!) That errant driver must be penalised!
