If he is anywhere near St.Neots he could bring it over to the Riverside Miniature Railway for a run. Have 5" and 7.25" on their line.

The engineers will be horrified, but I like the mix of metric and imperial measurements in the 1972 diary -sums up the transition to decimalisation of those times!
