Planned extension to Apache Falls will include an old time wooden gas station,so beside it I wanted an old piece of what could be called junk, this truck started life as a custom Revell kit but now has seen better days, poor ol thing now has flat tyres, the inner wings, front and rear fenders are rotten, chassis rails rusted through, sheet metal on the bed full of holes too together with the wooden floor :`( :`(radiator missing, grille gone, dials have been removed(drilled out)well just in a poor state of repair but maybe someone will see next to the gas station and make an offer on it and build it the way it looks on the box 8) 8) 8)still quite a bit to do on the project, dust weathering and some of the missing parts may just end up in the pick up bed,and some paintbrush bristles to make some seat stuffing from the tear in the seat, not given any thought to the buildings yet,at least the gas station and sheriffs office in the pipeline :D :D :D :D

Re: 40 Ford pick up "junker"

You've had a lot of fun with that - looks fantastic! :o

Re: 40 Ford pick up "junker"

Wow, that is really an amazing bit of work! :o

From seeing a lot of pictures of junkers (sorry, "restoration projects") like this in American car mags, maybe some grass and weeds growing up through the engine bay....? ;)

Jon.

Re: 40 Ford pick up "junker"

Thanks for the replies all,as I said in the first post still a bit to do,all the paint so far is brushwork so a lot of the rust "runs"are too hard on the edges, need fogging out a little and some of the rust spots are a little hard and heavy ,need fading back, the interior needs finishing, the kit comes with diamond pleat door panels and seating, after a hole was cut in the seat this was covered with 10thou plasticard with a lot of glue then while wet some pressure applied to pick up some of the patterning to take the plainess out and then covering was cut over the hole and peeled back to give a tear, some paintbrush bristles will be stuffed in to give "stuffing" effect. There are a few parts that i didnt use, radiator ,front bumper hoses etc that will probably end up in the bed or the cab as "removed" bits,i may put the hoses on the engine block, bend them a little then some black heatshrink to rubberise them, then of course a rattle can Humbrol no 29 dark brown dust over,as for grass n weeds growing through, already thought of that one, have some Woodland Scenic stuff (from 00 days)some of which may be usable..brush bristles for grass maybe.....also last night found an old 32 roadster in a parts box,may end up as a friend ;) ;) ;) ;)

I managed to get a couple of hours in today to finish the truck off,in the engine bay a few details added,a disconnected fuel line up from under the floor, the kit comes with a treble carb system so to make it more `stock`a single carb was used and I drilled the top out to give an air intake(venturi)but alas the air cleaner has long gone, while i had the drill out 2 holes drilled in the battery teminals, and 2 in the engine block, then 2 battery leads made up and fitted together with a rubber top hose made from heated sprue as were the leads(remember making tank antennas?) ;)and some heat shrink, then fitted to the motor block, the other hole left empty, hose and connecting union long gone :`( :`(The interior finished off, rust around the holes in the floor, some seat filling coming out of the seat tear and the gear lever knob removed, then a spray dust to finish off, exterior given a blue /brown wash to fade back some of the heavy rust colours,FOR SALE painted on the windshield, then a rattle can dust coat to blend it all together,so much better wi dirty windys ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)overall im pleased with the finished truck,as all the weathering/rusting(apart from dust) is brushwork,,,,Now away in box until its ready to go outside :sleepy: :sleepy: :sleepy:

The quintessential 'hasbeen' of the automobile world. A super, closely observed, job!
