2XLGBs pull really long train inc 2XLGBs on board!

After the thread on stringlining and superelevation I had a play this afternoon with a few experiments and filmed the results for you guys...

Because I built my railway from a second hand job lot with no advice (wish I knew about GSM/C back then!) I have a long loop filled with gradients (ruling 1:35) R1s and even R1 S curves... but I also want long trains...

Basically the key was ballast... the stock is ballasted with a rough linear reduction working backwards. The 0-4-0s are themselves lead ballasted- and one of the hauling Alcos is ballasted heavily too. It pulls the train easily alone- the second was for fun! Just put tools in the box cars and gravel in the open wagons- or timber as I have a four wagon timber train already.

So you can have agressive curves and gradients and long trains but gravity needs to be playing a big role- both for traction and for prevention of stringlining... enjoy...

hard to get steady speed- i have no remote and amps to climb are fast down hill- also back of train in s curves while front racing down hill... oh well... look out for the spare G Scale mill stones from my mill :-)

Looks good to me
You don't realise how tight R1s are until you watch a vid taken from the train point of view , then every corner is a screaming 'OhMiGawd we're going to crash' I personally find it a hoot every time (yup, dunnit with my train set too) :rolf:

Like the videos.
If you could I would get rid of the s curves or at least sperate with a short straight, they are very sharp.

I found, even on my 10/16 foot curves it was best to keep something heavy near the locos.
If I run hoppers I would always fill the first one with stones, that stopped any attempt by the locos to pull the train of the tracks.

Nice vidz mate, and good to see you are training the next generation of G Scalers.

I know you intend loose the wiggly bit near the onion sets if you can, and it's been said already, but try and replace it with either a straight section or a sweeping S curve, and it'll look just great....

Oh the whole thing is for the kids of course Gizzy- it's been a real sacrifice buying it all and playing with it for them.....
Yep, same thing here! I built the railway for my son Krizzy.

I know he's now left home and is about to finish university, but it's still his trainset really of course....
