Last night browsing Ebay for things I don't really need, I came across a red 2095 whizzy cranks listed as BIN for $14.00 or best offer and free shipping, from China !!! Box and all. Well, I made my best offer of $14.00 and paid with Paypal. The listing described the loco as minimally used from a private collection. The picture looked the part.

This morning I get this message;

"We had to remove this listing from the site and you're not required to complete the transaction. If you've already sent payment, the sale should process as normal and you don't have anything to worry about. If you have any questions about delivery, please check tracking or contact your seller. If you run into any trouble along the way eBay is here to help. Please visit the Resolution Center to help resolve any problems you may encounter."

"This user is no longer registered on eBay."

The seller had a zero rating and had just joined Ebay this month. Now I have seen new sellers offer good deals just to get their feet wet, but this deal was way too good. But I figured what the hell, if I blow fourteen dollars it wouldn't be the first time I lost money.

So I am a bit confused. I suspect I should wait to see if I actually do receive then item, which is expected to arrive sometime between the middle of September and the end of October. That should have sent a red flag I guess.....

I think you are in for a long wait:swear:

Free shipping from China to US? You'll be lucky! If it does arrive it will be bargain of the year, but I wouldn't be very hopeful. Think of it as a $14 lottery ticket.

Well there was that woman in the UK who won a mansion for a GBP 2.00 raffle ticket.
I recently ordered a vintage-looking light bulb with LEDs inside, not available here but the plain ones here cost twice as much as the Chinese job. Downside? 5 week wait, it seems the Chinese have yet to copy that modern technological appliance: The Aeroplane. They are still stuck on Edison light bulbs. :wait:

Scam.
I too bought 4 3050 style coaches for 14.00.

No response, cancelled with credit card company.

I thought it was a scam when i bought, but was willing to experiment, given so little risk of loss, see what happened then thought better of it.

Decided as an international sale, and if i waited, id indeed be out, and wasnt sure about security issues, even via pay pal.

Too good, and i still was curious....stupid indeed.

Surely you would get a full refund if the item does not turn up, after all you have bought it in good faith even if it is cheep.

Probably not, the long delivery quoted means the legal recourse would have timed out.

Best to raise it as an issue with Paypal - before the deadline. They seem to like giving the buyer their money back.
Years ago i purchased a large truck from Canada and had it sent surface mail as it was a lot cheaper - but this put its delivery outside of Ebay/Paypal resolution time. So I contacted them and their advise was to raise the issue anyway and mark as resolved when the item arrived.

About 15 years ago a new seller in Hong Kong (I think the name was something like 1p) was offering everything with a start price of ---- 1p! I ended up 'winning' a mini palmcorder which were retailing around the £250 mark then for £17 including postage. I didn't hold my breath, BUT five days later the item arrived by Airmail. OK it wasn't quite up to the quality of Panasonic but it did come with all the extras (rechargeable batteries, leads, SD card, case, software on CD etc. and it's still working. If it had come from Dixons or the like it would probably have been consigned to the bin by now. Sometimes you've got to take a chance. After all there's still PayPal protection.

Some years ago there was a Chinese seller offering Accucraft locos at very attractive prices, but evilbay wouldn't let me submit a bid or BIN - alleging something to do with currency / trading issues (can't fully remember now):rolleyes:

Seems there's nothing eBay won't sell. Long Weights! Sounds like apprentice days:rofl:
When I left school my first job was in a butchers. They sent me to a rival shop down the road for a long weight. I stood in there for 15mins then the owner said "you've had your long weight now f*%* off"

Oh dear oh dear, did someone actually fall for that?

There would have been plenty of young apprentices who fell for it, including being sent for bags of half inch round holes etc etc.

My grandfather worked for AC in Thames Ditton (Auto Carriers as it was then) and the favourite trick was for one of the old lags to heat up a wrench with a blow lamp, lie under the vehicle, and ask the apprentice to pass him the wrench - the safety elves would have a heart attack :devil::devil::devil::devil:

So once more eBay

When working in printing about two centuries ago one member of management sent the new boy to the print shop for a long weight/wait. Bad news for the, ahem, member is that some of the machines were built in such a way that they actually did have hanging long weights. I took one off and sent the young chap back. Said member gave me black looks for ages (mind you my hands were blacker).

For 'air hooks' we have 'sky hooks'..

New locksmith lad was sent up the road to the other Ironmongers for a brass magnet..

Best eBay bargain must have been the Stainz for less than £40..
Especially as the seller sent a second loco (OK needed a fair bit of TCL).. A Bachmann 'Lyn'.
