2095 "whizzy cranks"!

Given that several folks have been posting recently about wanting to get an LGB 2095, another one has just popped up on eBay today, here:

It's exactly the same version that I bought recently, the dark red livery and later type OBB logo; motor blocks are the old split-type, but it's quite an easy job to open these up and convert them to 4-wire if you want to chip it, mine took me about half an hour per bogie.

I got mine for just over the £200 mark, which I think was very fair for these in-demand locos - it'll be interesting to see how high this one goes!

Jon.

Well I'm on the look out for one, but I would not touch that example. I've seen better loco's in Booths scrapyard.

Apart from it being a bit grubby (as per the description) and missing one of the small side windows (which may very well be loose inside the loco, I suspect - it's quite easy to push one of these inwards, but very hard to get one out!), I don't see anything else wrong with it, Garry?
I actually contacted the seller about one of the other LGB items she has listed - she seems very genuine, but appears to be disposing of a job lot she acquired somewhere, and admits to knowing nothing about them at all - also has no means of powering them up (presumably no track or power pack in the lot) hence they are described as "untested", but confirmed that she would happily accept returns if a loco didn't work.

I'd happily bid on it if I hadn't just bought a similar one myself, and given the scarcity of 2095s at the moment I suspect quite a few others will do so - there are four different bidders on it already.

Well the buffer is missing from one end as is the coupling , the area where both should be could be damaged, the bodywork is covered in what could be scratches and it needs new pick up shoes.
I dont doubt something could be made of it, but I for one don't have the time.

I bid on these in person at a live auction here last week - be careful how much you pay, they were all really hammered!

Not getting at the seller, he's been quite honest about their condition, but what I'm saying is don't get carried away!!!! The skates were almost worn through on one....there was also a mallet tank that was mouldy!!!!!:'( The 2/4 looked a lot better.

Fair enough - it'll be interesting to see what it does fetch, along with the rest of the items from the same seller. Some look in better condition than others, from the photos - Neil, you say that the "choc bloc" isn't too bad?

Well it does look a bit on the rough side, but I'm only looking for one to respray two-tone green (as per my 2091), so if the price is right it could be an ideal candidate.

Would be re-assuring to know that it runs though :nail:

There was no way to know if they ran, it was a 'Coroners Auction' of a local well known 'gentleman' who is currently detained at her Majesty's leisure for quite some time.....found guilty of money laundering in a major way. The auction was to recover funds.

The choc block looked used but not too bad in comparison to the other stuff, the 2095's and coaches were a mess really, I would only have paid maybe £100 for the 2095's keeping in mind new motors may be needed and skates etc. Plus a good clean!! I didn't look at the mogul as it wasn't in my interest range. there was also some modern RhB coaches, but they had wheels missing etc, I note they have not yet appeared on e bay!

That's very interesting, Neil, especially where it all came from - and there I was thinking that all of us G-scalers were such honest, upstanding members of the community....! :rolf:

Was it all sold in one big lot or in batches?

They came in lots of a loco and several coaches. Basically there was only the e bayer and myself bidding on them, others dropped out very quickly. He wasn't going to let me buy any of it, he was obviously prepared to spend what it took to out bid me - he's welcome, his pockets were a lot deeper than mine! No doubt the e bay prices will go silly, that's why I said to be careful, they aren't worth the usual going rate - forewarned is forearmed!

Hmmm, he was indeed a thieving little sod as was his wife . Couldn't look after his loco's either.

Jeremy now appears to have a 2095 for sale, along with some other second hand bits:

Well, the eBay 2095 that I originally posted this thread about is now up to £102, with over three days still to go...... given what we've now heard about this lot of stuff, it will be interesting to see what happens with it.
On a similar theme, I had a good trip out today (With Beavercreek Mike - we're both self-employed, so both skived off for the day...) over to GRS - they currently have a red/cream 2095 in their second-hand cabinet, at well over £400! Not sure if it was a sound-equipped version, but at the price I'd certainly hope so.

Jon.
