1st live steamer on the KMRR

Shawn

Hiking, cross country skiing, snowshoeing
I had a club meeting on my RR yesterday. Weather was perfect. Morning started out cold with frost but by afternoon temps went into the low 70's F and sun.
Here are a few shots of the live steamer running on the KMRR. It is an accucraft Ida that has been redone both in and out. It ran great. Pictures not great too much sun light. Now I just have to find a way to afford a live steamer.

Way cool.

Unfortunately, unless you do one of the Roundhouse kits, one has to pay up all at once for a steam loco. The only real option is to set aside a few $ a month or so for a while of hobby budget, and plop it all down at once.

I think an Ida (last check) is about 2x the cost of your big HLW loco (to put in perspective) and probably 3x by the time you sort it out with bigger cylinders and other improvements.

great looking loco and rwy!!

Garret I think thats the only way I will ever get one is to save up. I dont need much more for my RR so saving up wont be difficult. I think I wannt something that runs out of the box with no adjustments etc.... The on ly way to do that is not go cheap. I really like the Lumberjack steamer by Regner but also like the roundhouse stuff.

Shawn, the first photo is especially convincing - I'm just bowled over by the authentic environment in which you have clearly invested so much time and commitment. Quite made my day!

Kind regards,

Alec K

I have to say this is one of my favourite railways.

If you are able to assemble a kit then one of the Roundhouse ones is the way to go. The 16mm Association is also starting a project loco, effectively a kit, which they aim to produce for around £500, paid for in stages.
