1:24 double decker bus

I went to a bus enthusiasts rally not long ago and picked up two brand new Sunstar 1/24th scale Routemasters for £40 each and a Bedford OB for £30. I couldn't see a future for the first two with the HVR so they were swiftly moved on for £125 the pair. I've also recently acquired two 1/24th scale Heller kits of Renault TN6(?) single deck buses with open rear platform as in service in Paris just after the war. Am tempted to convert one or both into French rural railcars as they cost less than £20 each, but I see some on ebay are listed between £36 and £73.

I had similar musings about those Heller bus kits, but my railbus needed to have a more US flavour - tempting though :nod::nod:

They could definitely pass for Irish ;););) - with the revenue man waiting to pounce as they crossed the border :devil:

Revell used to do a 1/24th scale Neoplan Cityliner which would make for an unusual modernistic beast. Might need to increase your loading gauge though due to it's height.

Yes - and that might happen again if Brexit goes awry!:banghead:

I had a couple of those Paris Buses yonks ago in 0 Gauge that I had spied out as being appropriate for a Railbus conversion, funny how we both came to the same conclusion. Shortly after I first moved to St.Neots the local Department Store was doing a deal on the Revell RM Kit in 1:24 which I also spied as being a good Railcar donor.

I have a Revell kit , it looks Ok but I don't think it will survive long outdoors, so it now resides on the part of the railway in the garage, here's an outdoor and indoor pick
Nice finish on your model. Looks in better nick than the three I had to drive up and down Great Yarmouth seafront until about 5 years ago. Strangely enough one of them turned up on the national news last year as it was being used to transport mourners to the funeral of the King of Thailand still sporting historic Great Yarmouth Transport livery and a destination blind displaying the town's suburbs. It is now an exhibit in a transport museum in (I think) Bangkok.

Talking of bus destination boards - one of the buses on St Mary's in the Scilly Isle, where the have 4 miles of road, used to sport a destination board citing.............

'To space, and beyond' :D:D:D:D:D

To boldly go ...
I think that was Startrek, I believe the other was Buzz Lightyear.............

Whatever, given the 4 miles of highway on a very tiny island, that is probably locked in a '50s timewarp, which is part of its attraction............

It's still a chuckle :rofl::rofl::rofl:

'To boldly go'.. Startrek.
'Infinity and beyond'.. Buzz Lightyear / Toy Story
'Space and beyond'.. A 'choose your own adventure' Sci-Fi book..

How do I know this??
Sad, isn't it?

Bet the bus isn't even there now - last time we were there we traveled in a vintage Austin bus - the tour guide jokes were still just as good :D:D:D

Further to posts 3 and 7, look what turned up in the post today. £20 including shipping. Box has some water damage, some parts are off the sprues and a start has been made on the chassis. All the bits are there though and the chassis is as it would need to be for the conversion anyway. Methinks I have another project in the offing.P1040820.JPG

Presumably still this one - seen in August 1999..........

At least I was able to travel on the scheduled helicopter service from Penzance on my one and only visit to the Islands. That stopped a few years back now.

Was there not talk recently of a reintroduction of the Copter Service?
