I have a shortage of cabooses for the freight service . so having two spare piko bobbers to hand I ordered two flat cars from the bay shop and set to work.
I removed the moulded stanchion sockets and filed the sides of the frame flat, The two bodies were cut and shut and then the height reduced to be less than the original, this is because NYC had lots of tunnels and not much headroom,
I sprayed them up and just need the lettering and handrails put on to give me a cheap and dirty bash together

How do you insert pics on here, not very easily ?

So I think I worked it out, but the order is mixed up a bit,

had to stop at this point as the hailstones came down, glad I live in the Riviera !!

Two into one will go! Nice work and lateral thinking - hope to see more (I missed your Sunday pics thread - it was always something to look forward to!).

Thanks for that, the caboose build is a three way job, the two spliced Piko bobbers are waiting to get salvaged handrails and other parts from a Aristo par that are about to get the same treatment, this should leave enough bits for the unfinished mystery caboose that will not have a cupola, just for a change, and then I will have a lot of chopped up bits to make sheds with!!

Caboose no2 is on the way , chopped two Aristo bobbers, then I will chop two Piko frames up to give me the safety steps either end , and the underframe from the chassis and trucks will be shortened, so a lot of sawdust on the floor today.caboose 2 (1).JPG caboose 2 (3).JPG caboose 2 (4).JPG

Caboose number two is now well on the way, roof to fill then sand and paint, the Bachman sole plates were cut down, ( not Piko as I said in error)and the chassis shortened to fit the sole plate, a bit of sawing made a lot of black sawdust everywhere, Aristo trucks with nice rusty wheels and a quick test through the turnouts,
Caboose 1 has had its windows fitted so just the handrails left and final paint and lettering, already pressed into service. caboose two (25).JPG

Caboose number three, and the last one as not got any more bits left,
this one is a bigger challenge as it will have Aristo ends, Bachman steps and sole plate, and a scratch chassis, the sides will be salvaged from the unfinished unknown caboose from the bay shop, need to get some trucks for this so will sit on archbar's tll then, this may get green paint?caboose two (17).JPG caboose two (12).JPG caboose two (14).JPG
