A friend of a friend has bought this.....is this another of those Merlin jobs? The regulator/reversing block is in a different place to the one I have seen previously, so I'm not sure at all.

Any suggestions?

I thought it looked like a Merlin, indeed someone posted photos of one that was very similar recently, I think we decided it was an Avonside, but this un has a few different fittings, especially the reversing valve.

It's new owner bought it because he liked the look of it, rather than a considered buy......he's new to the game!

Is that not the same one that was discussed on eBay? It's the same livery and I've never seen another that livery.

It is indeed an Avonside and Merlin (or Tom Cooper at least, as Steve said) and that's all I know. Oh, and it's pretty and I want one!

No idea Matt - I can't find that thread. It's certainly of the same design, for sure.

It may well be, it belongs to a friend of a friend in the north east, he's just got it......

EDIT - yes!! found the thread, it is the same one!! Small world. £477 - a bit dear......but not too bad.

Turns out it's not as good as it looks in the photos - which is a shame, as I gather the owner is new to steam, but I'm sure he'll get it sorted. Shame it's so far away from me....

I really like the look of this little engine, although I'm not too struck on the colour - but that's only a coat of paint. Hope it turns out OK Stephen...... :banghead:

Apparently it leaks like a teabag from it's boiler fittings, Tag, but he's on the case....with a bit of guidance!

I may tap you for that valve setting info though, when he manages to get it to hold it's water......we'll see how it runs.

Thanks for the help!

Neil.
