I was fortunate to be offered the chance to drive one for an hour or so on the Osthannoversche Eisenbahnen around 1982. I presume we had a big stretch of line to ourselves as at Mahlzeit, the supervising driver had us just stop the vehicle on the plain line next to a pub, leaving it unattended while we went inside for lunch. It also pulled a weighted trailer, to help trigger the track circuits and level crossing barriers.
