Having bought some Playmobil flat cars on eBay I turned them into a set of three hoppers. The underframes were shortened a bit and the bodies are styrene with framework from pine stripwood.

Then having some toy wagons I managed to salvage their axleguards and made a couple more hoppers of a slightly smaller pattern. These are supposedly rated for a 6 ton load and were the mine's original cars.

Sorry about the duplicated picture - at present I cannot find a way to remove it, but will keep trying.

Yes they would, but owing to a change of plan I cannot now model the mine, so the trucks will now just form a "minerals" and "returning empties" service during each operating session. I'll have to make some removable false tops covered in chippings. Not sure whether they will haul coal or Sylenite (a mineral additive used in the manufacture of bedsprings).

They will probably be topped and tailed by these......
