Can you now do double-heading with locos in any direction respective to one another - the missing feature compared to LGB MTS?

Not sure, nothing mentioned in the change log - I will contact Peter Ting at Massoth and check.

So how do you do it and what kit is needed..............

Gordon,

I havn't done this in a while but...

To perform the update you will need to download the Dimax Update program and the relevant firmware files. Connect the central station to the computer (either using a serial cable or USB cable depending upon your central station), run the update program, set your central station into update mode and then the firmware can be updated. To do the navigator/other modules, they must be teathered to the central station.

You can also use the PC module to update Navigators and other modules.

I will try and update my 1200Z & Navigator over the weekend and post a step by step guide.

Re:Massoth Firmware updated

Here goes with how to update your Massoth Central Station and Navigator.

First of all, you will need to determine the current firmware versions..

The Central station shows the version munber during its startup sequence....

The Navigator shows the version munber when starting up in teatherd mode....

Re:Massoth Firmware updated

Make sure you can connect your computer to the Central Station.

Most Dimax Central stations have a serial port but the latest have a USB port. If your system has a serial port then your computer will need a serial port too. If it dosnt (like mine), then you will need to obtain a USB to serial adapter lead (you can get them from Maplins and other good computer stores),

When you connect the adapter lead you may need to install drivers (which should be supplied).

Re:Massoth Firmware updated

Download the update software and required firmware from the Massoth Download center. If you are not registered then you will need to before you can download any files.

http://www.massoth.com/dlbereich/down.php

DiMAX 1200Z (800Z/1210Z)

If your version is pre v1.90, then you will need to update to v1.90, then to v2.11 and finally to the latest v2.61

If your version is between after v1.90 and before v2.11, you will need to update to v2.11 and then to v2.61.

If your version is after v2.11 then you can update directly to v2.61.

Similar update paths exist for the 800Z & 1210Z but check the comments on the download center to be sure.

Navigate to the required central station section:

DiMAX -> DiMAX 1200Z Central Station

and download the required files. The v2.61 firmware comes in different language variations, select the most appropriate version (in my case German/English).

I downloaded the file: D1200Z-V261_DE.dimax

Navigator

If your navigator is pre v1.70 you will need to update to v1.70 before updating to v1.81. I would also recommend updating the picture database also. You can also set the first and second languages that the Navigator uses by installing language updates.

Navigate to the Navigator section of the download center:

DiMAX-> DiMAX Navigator

and download the required files.

I downloaded:

- Picture Database 2010 (DiMAX-400H-Pic2010.dimax)
- Firmware DiMAX Navigator V1.81 (400H-V181.Dimax)
- Firmware DiMAX Navigator V1.70 (400H-V170.Dimax)

Re:Massoth Firmware updated

You should now have all of the components needed to perform the updates.

Connect your Central Station to your computer and disconnect all accessories from the Central Station (including the Navigator).

On the computer, unzip the DimaxUpdate program and run it, you should be presented with:

Click Next:

Use the Browse button and to Select the required update file:

Re:Massoth Firmware updated

If the update program cannot communicate with the central station or there is an error, possibly due to the wrong COM port selected this screen will be shown:
This screen indicates that I attempted to update my Navigator but it wasnt connected to the Central station - silly me :)

Re:Massoth Firmware updated

In order to update your navigator, connect it to the central station using the teather wire - it cannot be updated in wireless mode. I suggest that all other devices be disconnected from the Massoth bus.

Run the update program again and select the required update for the navigator, and follow the steps previously mentioned.

During the update, the navigator will indicate progress of the update.

Perform the required updates in sequence, starting with the lowest firmware version needed and finally the latest firmware version.

Once the firmware is updated to the latest, update the picture database and if necessary update the languages.

I had to update to firmware v1.70 before i could update to v1.81.

Re:Massoth Firmware updated

Other Massoth components (i.e Feedback Module & RC receiver) can be updated in a similar way.

The Massoth PC module can be used instead of the Central Station to update the Navigator and other components.

If you use the Navigator with MTS3, then you will need to find someone with a Massoth Central Station or PC module to assist in the firmware updates.

If anyone needs assistance with updating their Navigator, Dimax central station i would be happy to assist, just PM me.

Thanks, Marc (muns) for the guide.
Risking to be a dimwit, I first like to ask 2 questions:
- Do I really have to update? Are the new features relevant to me?
- What happens if I do not update?
Thanks guys, i'd like to know these first b4 embarking in strange pc - control unit linkages...
